Publix is the dominant supermarket in the southeastern United States. It currently has 1,135 stores. Kroger's Atlanta, Mid-Atlantic, Nashville, and Harris Teeter divisions had to improve. BI-LO, Food Lion, and Winn-Dixie have been obliterated by themselves and Publix.

A distribution center in Maryland or northern Virginia would probably be easier access to Philadelphia & South Jersey. If they intend to follow I 95 to Florida, a 3rd distribution center would be needed. I don't think that they'd go further south than Greenville on I 85.

I mentioned in the other thread that I love Giant too; I would also be all about Wegmans if they were closer. Occasionally I go across the bridge to the one in Cherry Hill. I prefer that one to the one in KoP because there are other stores right there that I can shop at, too.

I would trade Whole Foods for Wegmans all day long.

I go out of my way just a little to shop at the Rittenhouse Market because it's independent, because it's been an "institution" for years in Rittenhouse and it's truly a Philadelphia kind of store. It's the "feel" of it, I guess.

Wegmans seems to have no interest wrt coming into big cities unless you, mentally, yank Brooklyn out of NYC. There's a Wegmans in Brookkyn.

I think they would give WFs a giant headache if they put a store in Philly in direct competion with either WFs in CC/South St.

Same wrt to trading WFs with Wegmans. A no-brainer for me.

Whole Paycheck is by and large above my pay grade. But I will admit their stuff is very high quality, and its stores have cheese sections to die for.

But I can go to DiBruno Bros. for that and support a fine local family.

RTM is in a class by itself. But is, kinda, getting lost in this thread.

If Publix continues up, they will give Whole Foods a huge headache. It remains to be seen if they will, but they wouldn't be the first chain to enter Philadelphia from the south.

Some of their 365 house brand items aren't too bad. I like the bulk items.

I do not see Wegman's expanding south of North Carolina until it has distribution challenges resolved. A second distribution center should be under consideration.

I do not see Publix opening any additional Publix Greenewise Market stores. Most stores carry Publix Greenwise products.

Publix in Philadelphia would be nice. Another division and several distribution centers will be necessary for northern expansion.
