Tbh, I don't think they're coming here. I think it will be metro dc so maybe you should calm down a little.
And what was covered upthread was that for the 50K or 10K or whatever number of jobs that Amazon creates, there are X-fold other jobs created downstream. Many of these jobs (hotel, restaurant, retail, grocery, plumbers, etc.) are working class jobs that can be filled by some of the city’s unemployed or under-employed.

No two cities are alike. I don’t buy the argument that Philly would be “Seattlized” by Amazon. Philly is not Seattle. The cities have different economies, demographics and politics. I’ve bounced around on this, but am now in the camp that landing Amazon would be an unprecedented opportunity - a rising tide that would lift many boats.

I think we are in it to win it. And I think we’ve got as good a chance as any of the other finalists, semi-finalists or whatever phase we’re in.

I'm just back from Seattle after visiting one of my kids there. We visited the new Amazon Go store as well as saw the new biodome. I found this article https://www.seattletimes.com/busines...-company-town/ which says that Amazon owns 19% of all office space in the city. I would like to see it come to Philadelphia, I think it would bring a new vibrancy to the city. There's a majority of young people there that seems to drive the innovation and willingness to do new things.

Well, I do agree that Philly isn't Seattle. Everything else, not so much.

19% is the most of any employer in a major city in the US according to that article. That's pretty crazy.

How often do you come to Philly because there is a lot of young vibrancy right now, which will continue to be so with or without Amazon showing up.

Not that this will happen anytime soon but if Amazon has a big down period it would crater Seattle.

I don't think it's going to Atlanta. I was surprised that it made the list.

Looks like you are right about the ages. The median age is lower in Philadelphia! Editing - maybe it was all the weed I smelled while walking around Seattle, just made me think of young people LOL.

To an extent, but the whole city wouldn’t collapse a la Camden. It still has behemoths like Microsoft, Costco, Boeing, Nordstrom, Expedia, and Starbucks supporting it.

And yeah, I wouldn’t worry about that happening anytime soon. Amazon is just getting started.

The airport is a big reason it may go there. But that huge power outage it had should give Amazon second thoughts.

Miami surprised me more but Bezos grew up there.
