Five recorded cases of many millions of cases, one having gotten sick again a month after getting it the first time. If you had it once, you're got to be considered immune to it by those statistics. I have zero intentions of getting a vaccine for something i already have immunity to. West Nile Virus. You can't get it more than once, you get it once and you have immunity to it for life. Why is this virus different than that virus?
And... what if we're being exposed to biological agents that have been produced and manufactured in labs and are now being released to reinfect the population under the guise of Covid 19? People aren't dying and if you come down with a cold now it will be assumed to be Covid at first glance. We're being played, folks.

Yeah I get the religious freedom push back.

Whatever.....I don't have Covid Fatigue.....I have fatigue from people having no common sense....
The church aspect infuriates me and I don't care about religious freedoms. Small businesses are forced to close, left in the dark as to when they may receive assistance, and churches can stay open, how is that fair?

Museum closures are also ridiculous. Minimal contact with people, you don't touch anything and its very easy to social distance, remove seating, arrange walkways, etc.

Lastly, the closure of fitness centers hits me hard since a good chunk of my life is dedicated to fitness, health, well-being, etc. Not only does this interfere with physical health, but mental health as well. Physical fitness provides relief to so many people and is entirely voluntary.

I spoke with a few friends in medicine and they said the same thing... Many studies performed found very little Covid impact from fitness centers, they are actually among the safer indoor centers with proper precautions in place. The super spreader is people having private events/gatherings at their homes and huge events (rallies) with close contact.

Also, the s***show store known as Trader Joes, Target, Walmart, etc. stay open and grow their deep pockets, Amazon is quickly becoming the richest company in history, yet small businesses, restaurants, gyms, museums, etc. are suffering in great deal.

If the state/federal government offered immediate assistance then its fair, but forcing these businesses to close with zero plan in place?...I say all these businesses should get together and say screw it we are staying open. What is the city going to do?

At what point does the "solution" become worse than the problem?

I know this is anecdotal, but I have no reason to doubt my sister. Her neighbor is a firefighter who gets tested weekly. When a coworker tested positive, he continued to be tested weekly (during his 14-day quarantine and thereafter). Since our testing is much better than it was in the beginning, COVID continues to be detected for 6-7 weeks after infection. So although this guy was back at work and not contagious, he continued to test positive for weeks. The hospital reported that to the CDC as 7 positive tests, which the CDC documents as "cases," even though it's the same person.
Well, that's disheartening to hear....
Count the same person multiple times as multiple cases...SMH

I'm not posting this to say that I don't think we should take precautions or lock down, but simply to say that there is a good chance that the positive numbers are being grossly overstated. I'm more interested in the number of hospitalizations and the number of deaths. Those seem to be remaining fairly steady, even while cases rise.
What was he doing back at work if he was still testing positive? How does anyone know that he wasn't contagious? And how does the firefighter know how the hospital reported his case to the CDC? All due respect to your sister but the story sounds not very believable.

I'm in Florida but I do in fact know quite a few people who have gotten it in this second surge. One couple is in their 70s and were hanging out at a Moose that apparently didn't require masks or distancing. The woman in the couple is someone a few of us got together with at one of the girls' homes a few months ago. We were trusting that each of us weren't engaging in at-risk behaviors. Little did we know.

I don't want to see businesses go under but I try to support them in ways that don't require me to take risks with my own health.

Well, religious warship is a spiritual-centered, constitutionally-protected right. Museums, fitness centers, and other establishments aren't really the same thing (do any of them sit at the center of your beliefs about life and the afterlife?). And, while you're saying fitness centers are safe, I think it really depends on the fitness center. I see one in my neighborhood where people are without masks, breathing heavily, sweating, and not all that far from one another. It is said that if you are exercising (e.g. running), the separation needs to grow from six feet to 20 to be safe. And don't get me started on the Brazilian Jujitsu place where kids and grownups are wrestling around without masks on, sweating and breathing all over one another. That's totally ridiculous.

Note: I'm not a big religious person. Haven't been to a church in some time, so I'm not in favor of one other the other. I just think there is a difference between luxury establishments vs. something that is at the core of spirituality. And if people in a church are sitting 8 - 10 feet away from one another, I fail to see how that could be as risky as a fitness center or a restaurant (masks off, eating, drinking, talking in closer quarters).

I agree about the fitness centers. I have worked out at fitness centers since COVID restrictions were lifted. And the past month, they have become extremely crowded with virtually no sanitation by the facility or the patrons.

The Federal Government really needs to step in here and help out these small businesses but we won't see that until after Jan 20th by the looks of it.

1. West Nile is spread by mosquitoes. This is FAR more contagious. Airborne and more contagious than the flu or the common cold.

2. It is multiple times more deadly than either of those. Ever seen people dying outside hospitals and having bodies thrown in refrigerated trucks because the hospital is so full of sick people? That's because the flu, the cold, and other highly contagious diseases are not as deadly.

3. People have already proven to get COVID multiple times. This is not proven to be a disease where immunity lasts. I think the current estimates sit at around 6 months and even that is not proven.

4. This is not well understood, even now. I think there was a debate about whether this was a respiratory or vascular disease because some of the symptoms are not consistent with either. Long lasting effects have shown to be concerning. Now we have a mutated strain coming from minks in Europe that raises real questions on the effectiveness of the vaccines that have proven to have great potential.

So frustrating to hear this take.

You know anyone who has been lost to covid?

Didn't think so.

I'm tired of it, too, and frankly, I don't think we should bother re-litigating it here. If you are a person who's reached this point in 2020 and still don't think COVID is anything to worry about, then nothing we say here is going to change your mind, so please take it elsewhere. I'd rather we focus on the thread topic--what another lockdown means for this city, and how we all can make it through until January.

Hard to believe we can't get this thing under control with a country full of rational people such as this.
