I agree. I was very sad to see them not re-open.

Yeah, I saw that the other day, too.

The U. City shop also closed.

I only do the Russian dressing thing when I am eating "home-made" or "order out bring home" cheese-steaks.

Tell you what, there are SO many new places popping up all over the city as Philly proper continues to explode. Here are some of my new favorites:

Hoagies: Dan's Fresh Meats - Fishtown. Staple since 1949. Best hoagie in the northeast in my opinion
Italian: Palizzi Social Club - South Philly (not far from Passyunk Sq. neighborhood). You need a sponsor to get a membership, but the food is amazing. Several places not far that open to the public that are also really top notch
Thai: Little Thai Market in Reading Terminal
Japanese: Ginza (my bias as it's in Pennsport on Front and Federal). They do it right from my experience.
Indian: I'm still a Tiffan fan
Tapas/Spanish: Don't have a "new" place yet, but Amada and Barbuzzo are tough to beat
Mexican: I'm really warming up to the new "Mexican Market" just south of Italian Market. Bunch of solid places

Anyway, some initial thoughts above. Anyone else have new favorites?

Northeast and South Philly have the best hoagies in the city

Fishtown is part of the River Wards.

It's nowhere near the Northeast.
