We have a smooth collie and a rough collie...their coats actually also insulate them from the heat. But the great thing about the desert is how much cooler the evenings are than like...HERE for example.

We have three dogs, in order of acquisition there is Dreifus, a large, dark, Male German Shepherd Dog, one of the best babysitters you could ever hope for. Daugher of Dreifus, Jorja by name, another German Shepherd Dog, a tiny little thing compared to her father, a mere 75lbs. AND...we are owned by exactly ONE Genuine Rescue Muttpuppy who can, with her head held high, walk under the German Shepherd Dogs, her name is Leilu, I sometimes call her our "Botswanian Barrel Dog", she got back from her annual check-up at the Vet, yesterday, her chunkyness weighed in at 62 lbs. We also have two rescue cats named "Simba" and "Mudflap", Mudflap received his name after I rescued him from the middle of a street in downtown Durham, he was small enough to fit inside my coffee mug, ...uh...he grew! Simba was rescued from the pound, looks Siamese, sounds Siamese and has no fear of dogs.

IDK what desert you are in but it regularly is almost 100 still at midnight here. My dog is just fine in the summer provided he has water and shade.

right now i have 2 german shepherds. one is a foster, she is pure black. the other is our pet, she is mostly black.

My dog LOVES the heat. on the hottest part of the day you will find her sleeping out in the direct sunshine. She has a dog door that leads to a cool house, but prefers the hot sun. You thought wet dog smells bad, try steaming hot dog!

here is the foster dog. she was on the E-list at animal control. now she is safe and just waiting to find a permanent home

Ah, I lived in the high desert for 3 years and even in the hottest part of the day, the shade really worked (not like here in North Texas) and the evenings were so cool...70s...you could actually enjoy being outside (again, not like here in parts of Texas where the humidity makes it all cling). For example, today's weather where I used to live is 105/78 with 7% humidity.

Cocker Spaniel, we keep him cut short in the summer. That being said, his paws get burnt on the sidewalk in the summer so we wait until the sun goes down to walk him.

Here's my boy visiting Sedona, Hualapai, and the Grand Canyon. And I can't resist posting one of him with his goats.

We have two Pembroke Welsh Corgis, Sam and Pebbles, and a Poodle mix, Bruno.

Do you have a dog? What kind?-100_5940.jpg

Bruno is a deployment dog, his owner went to Iraq and never came back. We got him from the Humane Society. He's a great dog, very smart, funny, and great with my kids.

Sam and Pebbles we got from a friend that has corgis. Pebbles was the runt of the litter and is considered a "fluffy". She has a very fluffy coat instead of a smooth coat. They do well in the heat, but they shed like crazy. Great dogs, but they need regular grooming.

I like to visit the humane society first since those animals are in danger of being euthanized, but if you don't see one there, this place helps give pets in the Valley a new home. Welcome to Lost Our Home Pet Foundation
