From NE Mesa is a long commute, and at times in the morning, the ramp merging onto 101 from 202 (coming from NE Mesa) has a very long bottleneck. I would not want that commute.

I have never spent more than 15 minutes to Scottsdale from Mesa.

Google maps estimates 34 minutes from my home in north Mesa to that corner, so not much shorter than Anthem.

I recommend avoiding the 202WB/101NB ramp. Exit at Country Club and take McDowell west to the 101. It also bypasses the 202 dipping almost 2 miles south before you turn north.

I really don't mind a 30-40 minute commute. Not a bad buffer as ReadyFreddy mentioned. Gas prices are a concern, but more for my wife driving a minivan than for me in my little 40MPG economy car. So I'll ask this question...are there any communities closer to N. Scottsdale that offer similar amenities to those in Anthem?

Most are about the same. Anthem just over built so they have a lot of rentals and forclosers.

Mesa=wouldnt wish that one on op. I did Mesa to Scottsdale (Baseline/Higley to Via de Ventura/Scottsdale)....awful on 101. I moved to Scottsdale first chance I could. 15 minutes to N Scottsdale=no way other than by helicopter lol.

Anthem is nice but watch for Friday night commute home in summer when everyone is trying to get north out of the heat. ;-)

What do you mean by "amenities" in Anthem? Other than being up in the hills, so there's some scenery, I'm not aware of amenities in Anthem that would outweigh the distance. You could consider Fountain Hills in terms of scenery, and people who live there and post here swear you can be anywhere you need to be in 30 minutes or less, but it's not freeway access there. And, I know you'd just be renting, but there were some issues with construction defects/soil issues/foundations in Anthem... I don't remember the details, but it might be worth checking out a bit.

WHERE in Scottsdale, and WHERE in Mesa, and what time of day. Given the size and shape of these communities, blanket statements like the above don't mean much.

You must drive during the quieter times, away from crush hour.

Or you're a speeder.

Or both.

The community center...pool...water slides...play castle...train...tennis courts...fishing pond...etc. There's also the golfing, but I'm not a golfer so that doesn't matter.

If you really think you will use all that enough to make it worth the extra expense and the time you'll never get back commuting and driving to every other form of entertainment or major shopping, then it may be a good choice for you. I'd take the rental for the shortest term you can get, in case you change your mind and find an area you like better.

Can you get "at least a 1/4 acre" lot in Anthem? I know you can closer in, but I'm not familiar with all the subdivisions in Anthem.
