Does anyone know the space requirements between property lines or the link that states this in laymen terms?

I would like to add a room on the east side of my home and I don't know how much space is required between then the end of the new addition and the neighbor's property line. I believe this is called the setback requirement. I am also considering extending one of the rooms north into my front yard and I believe there is a setback requirement for that as well.

Thanks for any help!

I would imagine that it differs with the municipality and the zoning classification, not to mention the deed restrictions, HOA, etc.

Call the planning department for the city you live in and ask, I'm sure they can give you the info you need.

Pretty sure the standard is 5' but you will need permits to add anything that is attached to the home. Best thing to do would be to employ an architect to do the design and they will know the requirements for your property, they will help you with all the permitting requirements and ensure your addition is built to code.

Excellent advice. Also, a licensed remodeling contractor can handle this as well.
