HX, your highest demand shown above would be 5.0kWh. It only counts between noon-7pm.

For example, if AC #1 turns on at 1pm and runs for 15 minutes and Ac #2 turns on at the same time and runs for the same 15 minutes, it wouldn't be any different than if AC #2 turned on at 1:15 and ran for 15 minutes, it would still be the same usage within that hour. To have less of a Demand charge, you'd want the two ACs to turn on an hour apart, not within the same hour.
Right. When I run my unit during peak hours, I try to run it at 30 past the hour for an hour. For example, I'll turn it on at 2:30p and turn it off at 3:30p. That way I'm only being hit with 30 minutes of usage per demand hour.

Hmm, I don't think it's within hour on the hour though, is it? I understood it was within any 60 minute period, so that could be from 12:-07 - 1:07 etc.

Hmm, I bet with my programmable thermostats I could set it up in such a way where the 2 AC units never run at the same time during on-peak but still have the house be at a comfortable level.

It's my understanding that it goes by each hour. When I download my demand usage, it's broken out by hour and that's how I'm billed.

The description of the plan from APS says 60 minute period, not clock hour. Peak hour demand is one of the things that report on the meter. It may also be available online.

This is from the tariff sheet:

DETERMINATION OF KW
For billing purposes, the kW used in this rate schedule shall be based on the average kW supplied during the 60-minute
period of maximum use during the customer’s On-Peak hours, as determined from readings of the Company’s meter.

Interesting. I wonder if I've been interpreting it incorrectly. Their downloadable data shows by clock hour and coincides with my bill but everything I read does in fact say, "60 minute period".

So is it by the clock hour like Detroit is saying or is it any 60 minute period that constantly resets every minute?
