I do generally find Arizonans tend to be overly optimistic. Statistically, introducing casinos/legalized gambling tends to be destructive to most communities.

Right. Scottsdale, with its two casinos, sure is a pit.

Calling them casinos doesn't do justice to the kind of places that are being built here now. It's much more than a tent full of slots these days. They are more like destination resorts with gambling. They have nice hotels, pools, restaurants and entertainment venues. Though the one in Glendale has been scaled back from what was originally planned, it still will be an asset to the area, I believe. And there is room to grow it as well.

Just got back from The Vee Quiva casino in Laveen, nice place, pretty crowded. If the one in Glendale is anything like it, it will be fine.

I just took my son shoe shopping at the Phoenix Premium Outlets which is adjacent to the casino by Chandler and the casino was packed on a Saturday mid-day. lots of campers and big rigs parked there as well (maybe because its on I-10). It seems to be successful as that site now has a resort, a mid rise hotel, golf courses, the mall, rawhide and the pre existing firebird raceway/lake. Also its home to the top rated restaurant in the state, Kai. Similarly attractions are surrounding the talking stick casino outside of Scottsdale, so I think they are proving to be successful (Harrah and vee quiva exceptions due to bad locations).

I don't visit the casino's much, last time was the lone butte off Kyrene/202 on a Friday night and it seemed packed to the rafters (won over a grand playing $5 wheel of fortune slot btw)

Glendale has finally come to their senses. Too bad it happened well after there were murmurs that the tribe was thinking about buying the Coyotes if Glendale dropped the casino lawsuit. Glendale should have went that avenue in a fury.

Oh, great, just what the Valley needs--more service industry positions. As if we don't have enough here already!

God forbid the City of Glendale worked to attract a corporate HQ or regional office instead of a casino... Ugh.
