I know what you mean ... but I really don't have an issue with casinos, even being the non gambler that I am. As far as I'm concerned, casinos should be fully legal state wide, and not just on reservation land. At the same time, I can't help but think that Glendale is really reaching for some fast revenue to compensate for their loss on the Jobing.com/Coyotes boondoggle. Glendale is in deep financial trouble thanks to the entire Westgate fiasco, so this is their desperate way of replacing lost revenue. I say go ahead and build the casino ... but it will be yet another "amenity" in the Westgate area that I will have no need to visit, being that it's so far away from me.

Not at all. San Diego has many that are thriving, my favorite is Viejas where they put in Outlet shopping across the way. The ones here are too far out from the West side, I see it as a boon. I'm hoping like the others that it provides another indoor concert venue and a place for local bands to play in the lounge.

I guess we'll see. What the hey, let's let the people vote with their wallets. Couldn't be any worse than an old dog track just sitting there crumbling year after year (off I10 @ Citrus). Could've made THAT into one heck of a casino and I doubt anyone would really care.

Agreed, if they were wise, they should have gotten the tribe to be part owners of the Coyotes. The current Coyotes ownership group publicly stated they were open to their involvement when they were bidding. It would have been a win win for everyone.

Nonetheless, you can't focus on the past. Given Glendale credit for coming to their senses and getting this deal done. It's going to benefit Glendale and the area.

As if it's that easy, yeah, just get a corporate headquarters to move to your city. Of course, Glendale and any city in the Valley would desire that. But corporate HQ's don't grow on trees. You have to be realistic. They have a chance at a casino. It's better than nothing. There was nothing going on that land or the areas immediately around there. We've been hearing talk for the past decade how amusement parks, and other development would just thrive in the area surround the stadium and it hasn't manifested. Glendale came to their senses and recognized it's better not to **** away a casino and development.

Horse trotting park and I agree, what an eye sore! Last I heard someone looked at it for an outside entertainment venue, guess that didn't go anywhere. I've read it's too costly of a demo & clean up with asbestos involved.

The Gila River community cut a deal with the Coyotes and Jobing.com is going to be renamed Gila River Arena. That's an improvement right there. Not only that it is great politics.

Glendale's Jobing.com Arena changing its name

What would make those casinos a destination event is if they allowed sports betting at those locations. A lot of people would come there just to watch the NFL, NCAA and others sports and hang out in their sports book. People would come there before the Cardinals games, watch some football and then depart for the game.

I bet they would attract more people if it was non-smoking. It would have a unique draw in the Valley and would separate themselves from other casinos. A lot of elderly people have COPD, CAD etc and don't want exposure to second hand smoke. They quit smoking when they were much younger. I personally hate the smell of smoke. I'm glad Vegas finally started building smoke free casinos. Plus, I think it provides for a better crowd anyway.
