I looking at moving my family to Arizona from out of state in the next few months. We have looked at several properties and have narrowed our search down to 2 areas of Mesa ( Las Sendas and Mountain Bridge) and Seville in Gilbert. I like the location of the north Mesa communities over Seville, but I liked the amenities of Seville with their club and waterpark.

Our goal is to avoid seasonal communities and find one where we can acclimate quickly and find lots of young families like ourselves.

I am hoping some local might be able to provide tips or insight one these communities or things we may be unaware of before pulling the trigger and purchasing a home. There seems to be an abundance of properties in Seville and the price is a little lower. My realtor stated a lot of people were previously underwater there but not matter how good the realtor I still know how they get paid!

Thank you for you input!

We didn't look in these communities so I can't speak to them but I wouldn't put my kids in the Mesa schools. It's the largest school district in AZ and has many low income and ESL kids.

I think Seville is in CUSD, correct? CUSD is one of the best districts in Arizona.

In the areas the OP is looking this isn't remotely a concern. This area of Northeast/ East Mesa is very affluent, with excelling schools. My kids are in the Mountain View boundary, a high school ranked 12th in the state, with the stellar results of both it and all its feeder schools reflecting the wealthy demographic it enjoys; the area boundaried for Red Mountsin High School enjoys a similar advantage.

Chandler is a terrific district, but it does do a year round school calendar rather than a traditional one, if that's an issue (personally I'd prefer it to our ridiculous '10 weeks off in the 110 degree heat' one...)

I understand that it's an affluent area but the lesser performing schools in the district are a distraction. A district with more low income and ESL students has less resources for middle class children.

Note that there is an ongoing proposal for the Mesa district to move to a modified year-round calendar as well, where it would join the Chandler, Queen Creek, and Higley districts in the modified year-round club. Not saying it will happen, but it is being considered by the district.

I really like the NE Mesa areas...the views are AWESOME. But I wouldn't trade CUSD for anything...unless we moved out of state.

That'd be nice... mind you it's been 'ongoing' for years now, every time we vote on the next few years of the school calendar; each time, the traditional one just squeaks in to first place

Someone with kids in Gilbert schools told me the other day that they're going to year-round too - is this correct?

Mountain Bridge is all retirees. Las Sendas is a very nice area as is seville.

Schools are good in both areas.

I would go with Seville over Las Sendas as LS is closer to mountains and open desert and you would get a lot of undesirable wild life.

No current plans or proposals for a modified year-round schedule in the Gilbert district. Are you sure they weren't in the Higley district? Higley is moving to a modified year-round schedule for the next school year.

Northern and eastern parts of Mesa are more suited for senior citizens.

Western parts of Mesa are younger but not as nice.

Gilbert is far more family-friendly, I'd recommend it for a family with children especially a younger family.
