$16 an hour job is totally decent to live well in AZ.

Good Luck!

Sorry I haven't taken the time to read through the pages, but yes $16k/ year is decent. I'm probably echoing a lot of similar statements.

I think there are other factors to consider- AZ is a low cost of living state vs. a lot of places on the east coast. Again I don't know what your spending habits/etc are but you can at the very least be able to make it and save some, whatever your goals may be.

I make ~$22,000/ yr, have no car, no debt, single, etc. Savings plans are different for everyone but I'm making out okay. My biggest weakness is going out to eat, since it's convenient and I enjoy the social aspect. Otherwise I spend my money on mechanical wrist watches and other music items- we all have our personal hobbies but I digress.

$16k/ yr for entry level isn't bad. There will certainly always be demand for IT jobs at that pay grade imo vs. something like retail; you're not as easy replaceable as others in a lower position.

Best of luck - I'm trying to get out of this state myself actually. You can have my old job

I'm still mulling over the move myself and am in sort of the same position as the OP as far as being able to transfer within the company I'm employed with.
So far, I've dealt with icy roads and snow out here in eastern NM for the past, three years and I'm afraid the next cold snap will be the nail in my coffin.

I've tried hunting for local, non Over-the-road trucking jobs in Albuquerque, but no dice.
As much as I like the "small-big-city" feel of that location, I'm not too keen on starting at the extreme bottom end of a pay-scale if I take a completely different job out of my current field.

I've been through different parts of Phoenix over the past, ten years and think I might mesh well with it.

But after getting as far away from CA as I did three years ago, I'm quite uncertain of how I'll deal with the Californiazation I've witnessed in some areas there.

The freeways are about as jam-packed as the ones you'd see in the LA, OC, and Inland Empire areas.
And after climbing to the top of Camelback Mountain back in March, the sprawl all around made me a bit worrisome.

I no longer want to experience Winter in any shape or form.
But for now, if I want to keep making some decent money, have more of set schedule when it comes to start times and working days, this might be the only shot worth taking.

How old are you? If you decide to move out let me kknow and we can figure something out. I've already got a nice apartment complex picked right across the street from my work. Could save us both a lot of money until we part ways.

I'm 32, but right now it all depends on whether the transfer will get stalled again and if the position reopens.
I'll basically be driving copper concentrate loads between Bagdad and Miami.

lol, no clue what exactly that entails but good luck. I still don't know if I'm getting offered this job in Phoenix or not. It'll be near the Glendale area. I'm looking online at easyroommate.com and might just rent a room from someone for the first couple of months if I go.

Is anyone familiar with the apartment complex called 'The Retreat' in Northern Phoenix? It's very close to where I'd be working and seems to have good reviews online.

Ha Ha. I can see why that might sound odd to someone not from these parts. Bagdad and Miami are both in Arizona! They are copper mining towns located about 200 miles apart with Phoenix in about the middle.
