Hi everyone

I have a job offer in Phoenix and trying to see if it is good to move to this area.

Job location is 14647 S. 50th st Phoenix.

I am reading in the net Tempe is a good area to move.

Are there any light rail commute between Tempe and chandler. The address looks like close to chandler.

Since I do not drive, kind of hesitant to take this offer and move to Phoenix - even though it is a much better jobs offer.

Appreciate any guidance.

Yog

No the light rail in the area, but there is bus service in the area. The area is a nice upper middle class area with South Tempe, West Chandler, and Ahwatukee all great places to live. So if light rail to there is a must then it's probably not for you. The Valley is pretty carcentric it's huge and not easy to get around without a car.

You could get very close to there (a couple of blocks) on a bus, using the Phoenix ALEX neighborhood circulator bus together with the Route 108 that runs along Elliot Road through south Tempe. You can see the bus info and a map here: www.valleymetro.org Or, just live in the Ahwatukee area of Phoenix, and just use the circulator bus. I don't know what your budget is, but there may be options either way. Ahwatukee would be easier, in the sense that you could use the circulator to go the the grocery store, etc., and use other bus routes to get into Phoenix, etc.

TempeAZNative is correct in that this area is difficult to live in without a car. People do it, but it is not easy.

That address puts you squarely in Awahtukee. There are nice apartments nearby or homes to rent, depending on your budget.

In case you are not familiar with the area, Ahwatukee is not a city. It's a community name and is part of Phoenix.
Here is a link to area zip codes. This might help you in your search.

I agree. If the OP doesn't drive and accepts a job in an area like this, the best choice would be to live within close proximity of the job, and commute by walking, biking, carpooling, or taking a bus. It wouldn't be all that easy ... but on the other hand, I rode the buses for a while when I was young, and this was when bus service in general was even worse than what it is now. I got around just fine, even though it was inconvenient at times, especially further away from centralized areas.

San Melia apartments are right across the street. I have a number of co-workers that live there and walk to work.

I would not move to the PHX area without a car. It is way too spread out

My thoughts exactly. No reason to give yourself a commute when the area you are going to work in is very nice with plenty of options even within walking distance.
