The breaks in the monsoon are always torture especially when they happen this early and for this long, but we still have a solid two-plus months left to keep watching, waiting and hoping. Some years the monsoon hasn't even begun by now, so we just all got too hopeful with another early start to the season.

I am trying to stay optimistic and hope that things kick off in earnest in the back half of July and beyond. At some point all this powerful heat ought to pay some dividends if we can just get the right winds and high pressure locations lined up.
I figured the 118 last month along with several 115 plus was responsible for the early start. Apparently these consistent 110's aren't hot enough to get it going again.

If you look at this it stays so far they have had 1.04" of rain. https://weather.com/weather/monthly/...+USAZ0214:1:US I agree that's a little low but it does not take much to get even in a hurry. And the historical averages for rain during July and August are currently less than 4". I seem to remember more rain in the 1960s.
Lived there in 1967-8 while in the Army and again in the 1990s while the wife worked for the forest service.
The climate does seem to be changing to a drier one for sure. I can remembers now, pretty thick, around 6" or so, two days after I arrived at Fort Huachuca in 1967. And in either '67 or '68 I can remember some 6-8" of snow on Fry Blvd too during one day.
But in later years snow was just a passing thing with not much accumulation. Let us hope that AZ does not become a wasted desert like some parts of the world.

Looks like it will be back by late in the weekend, earlier in the White Mtns. We'll have the typical pre-monsoon heat wave this week to contend with, though not as bad as back in June. Me, I'll be glad when it's all over and fall is approaching.

Dew Point up in central area around Prescott is only 34°. Should be in the mid 40s to get something going. Not good for rainfall. Only .3" here so far and none predicted for the next week or so.

My low this a.m. in the Verde Valley was 58. It's dry as a bone and the evap cooler is working like a champ. 105 yesterday afternoon. I know we need rain but darn it, I can't say I hate this weather.

Up in Prescott the Monsoons have been disappointing, really only 3 or 4 days with only one OK Monsoon storm out of those days. Kind of a bummer. Last year we had a lot of good ones. The lack of water is really hurting the animal life up here. We even had a bear roaming through Frontier Village the other day, probably driven down looking for food/water.

I think this is like last year an early few days of monsoon then dry for many weeks. NWS discussion says next week monsoon could return not before we hit 112 on Friday. Drier hotter weather is what to expect unless we get tropical weather from mexico like we did in 2014.

Well, the "monsoon season" is now dictated by the Wx goons, instead of the old guidelines where when it hit X amount of RH for a consistent amount of time was when the season started. It's an artificial expectation that leaves everyone expecting rain... and Ma Nature just chuckles at the folly of man.

That has more to do with winter snows. Thank you, no-show El Nino!
