There's no joke here. The previous poster brought up Denver's and was saying it effected his health. If you have health issues that would be made worse by that "brown cloud" then you shouldn't live in a city that has that issue, here or there.

My point was that PHX's air affects people, too. If I were that guy, I would've moved to Montana or some dang place. Moving from one polluted city to the other is odd. PHX's brown cloud is infamous.

I didn't think that poster said they moved here, but you are right and we agree. Move someplace that doesn't affect your health, don't just complain that it does and blame the city for your problems.

Fair warning, Short-Term Particle Pollution in certain cities in MT that rank worse then Phoenix.

I don't agree with his comment regarding the congestion though. Traffic in the valley is fairly mild, specially the east valley areas he is referring to.

Also, having lived in several cities all over the US, I find it funny that people everywhere feel that their city/metro is the best and and all naysayers are clueless ***bags.
If I went on to a Seattle forum and started complaining about how much I hated rainy/damp weather I'm pretty sure I'd be grilled as well for not realizing before I went to Seattle that it would be rainy. Coming to a desert, selling yourself as a relocation expert, then being shocked by the fact that it's brown is beyond ridiculous.

This person seems to have a very strong chip on their shoulder and anyone familiar with the valley can see that really quickly in the structure of their complaints.

"Stucco housing is so gross" then why did you go look around in newer subdivisions, there's obvious places anyone with experience here would tell you to go if you don't want a stucco home.

"DT Gilbert and Chandler don't have enough shops" Then you should've went to downtown Tempe or Scottsdale, they're chalk full of shops.

Nothing about this rant really makes much sense, that's why its getting grilled so hard. Nobody things the valley is for everyone and nobody says there are no negatives.

I've been on this forum for a very long time. I've seen a lot of complainers. I've read many of these threads. They all have one thing in common

The complainers don't leave.

I always found it ironic that the people who claimed to dislike the Valley so much never leave. They are still here. Some people changed usernames to save face but if this place is so horrible as they all say, why are they still here? And if they leave, why do so many of them move back?

Anyone can vent and type a bunch of criticisms. Their real opinions are manifested in their actions. They would have left if they disliked this place.

Even those critical of the Valley who insinuate their previous state or city is better are still here. They have not left. And that's because they know this place is better than their previous home but have too much pride to admit it.

So if you are one of those people who are critical of the Valley and imply your previous home or city is better, you realize you lose credibility by the fact that you are choosing to live here.

When I was living in Miami, I heard the same complaints about that city. A lot of east coast residents used to criticize Miami and claim it was humid, and the people are not friendly and it rains too much and the crime is horrible, the drivers are bad, no one speaks English, but none of them moved backed to New York City, Philadephia, Boston, and Washington D.C. They all just liked to complain but when it came down to it, none of them were going to leave Miami for those places. They knew better. They talked a lot of crap but deep in their heart, they were not going to leave a sunny paradise for those stressful cities. It's the same concept here. All these people who complain about Phoenix are not leaving. They know this place is better. For example, I know so many from Seattle who live here and will praise Seattle and criticize Phoenix but they aren't moving to that gloomy depressing rain filled area. They know better. I know people who work for Amazon and commute from Phoenix because the pacific northwest is so depressing.

My parents moved from Miami to DC in 1963, and are still there. They did mention horrible drivers (specifically from Michigan), way too many snowbirds, and lack of a diversified economy. Mom had a tough time adjusting to the seafood in DC....much better now. Still lots of things smelling fishy in both places.

And again for the record....

"SHAME ON YOU VALLEY" is not pointing fingers at the people so quit getting defensive. It is referrencing the area as a whole. Not the people living in it. You all have your reasons to live there. Im not poking at you all. Just the atmosphere and vibe the Valley gives off.

I'm not sure if any physical area/landmass can be "shamed", but you have the freedom to try of course. Perhaps the desert blushes, don't know.

But that's fine if you're changing your view from your OP in which you took a shot at the honesty of people on this forum:

"When people are kind enough to be honest on here, take it and look into those things more if it bothers you."

And that to many is indeed insulting as you are questioning the honesty of people "here". Perhaps next time before posing such a generalized statement you should take into account that perhaps more than a few here overall like the area and have different likes/dislikes than you? Again, more power if someone comes here and hates/dislikes the area, every place isn't for everyone. But don't beat down people/accuse them of being dishonest/not "kind' enough when they are simply expressing their view that may be different than yours. That's not polite. And yes, some people will indeed get "defensive" at being accused of not being honest. Perhaps if you understand this reality you'd understand what more than a few of the posts here are about.

Good points. I've wondered the same thing. The only thing I can think of is that some of the people truly do not like Phoenix or (insert any other city here) yet don't have the drive/initiative to move on and so they take out their frustration of being "stuck" here out on to the people on this forum/other city forums. I also think some people are chronic complainers and just whine about everything in their lives/about their lives to others and blame things like place vs their own self. I think we've all met a few of those people....Me:"nice day, isn't it?".....Other:"what's nice about it? It's horrible, the this/that dah dah dah dah....". Oh well, we humans are an interesting/odd specie on many levels to say the least.
