Do Phoenix TV weather people have contests for guessing when the "ice will break" on Tempe Town Lake, Salt River, etc like they do the Santa Cruz in Tucson...? I remember once the weather man took a camera crew down to the river bed to show a big block of ice melting on the sand.

I am pretty sure Colt was being funny...the Salt, at least in town, is dry unless we have a good rain. Tempe Town Lake has probably never been frozen over...it is a set man made lake with a circulation system. Even if we did have an overnight freeze it wouldn't be cold enough to freeze it or any of the man made lakes around here.

Kurt's right, Wilma. It's all in fun.

I do remember when Michael Goodrich was the weather guy down there in Tucson, and he was pretty much the catalyst for that "ice break on the Santa Cruz" promo. It was all to welcome back the first century mark of the season. Happy 100-degree fahrenheit to us all!

??? Of course it was all in fun. "Ice breaking on the Santa Cruz" was a late spring gag in Tucson for years. Was I somehow too subtle...

Michael Goodrich, yes! He was the one with that ice-block gag. Good lord he was a fun meteorologist.

Let the betting begin anew! We fell short by one degree today and it'll be at least a week before we get another shot at it.
