Was driving on the I10 toward Tucson and SR 437 to Maricopa and noticed there are no saguaros at all? Is this from us moving them or some subdivision of the sonoron desert?

Saguaros prefer sloped terrain. You'll find plenty of them south of Phoenix, but generally not in flat areas. Head south to Tucson and you'll see some impressive saguaros at places like the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and Catalina State Park.

That makes sense as to why there aren't many between here and Tucson since it's pretty flat

This wasn't farming land either just desert with some shrubs and little to no cacti

Also makes sense that I see the most up around N Sdale and Cave Creek since it's hilly there

The absence of saguaros and the hills they grow on is a big part of what makes the drive between Phoenix and Tucson so utterly uninteresting. It's not until Picacho Peak that the scenery becomes at all worthwhile.

I noticed that, too. Out by the Wild Horse Pass drag strip there are no Saguaros anywhere. So weird.

C'mon. You haven't noticed the stand on the hill overlooking the Gila River?

There are actually a lot of saguaros on that drive if you look for them.

There’s a stand near Casa Grande of very old ones with 5 or 6 arms.

my first thought. They are pretty dense right there. Then at the sacaton rest area there are saguaros everywhere. Sure they don't get dense in the flats but there are literally saguaro all the way to Tucson if you look for them.

I was just in Cave Creek and damn those are some big guys Nice to see the landscape from living in the city. I really don't see much down here in central/midtown. I know other towns have them in the landscape a lot more
