What? No one ever exaggerates here, especially not about how hot it is

Grew up in Orange County area Southern California we had a pool we heated in the summer with a 200k BTU gas heater to get it to the low 80s cost us about $125 a month in gas which was 1980's money today that probably $300+.

And before you say no one is heating their pool at those temps you are 100% wrong as snowbirds do it every year when the grand kids are in town. No is it exactly $100 or above per day, maybe not, but 6ut is very significant and that number is not out to lunch.
Well if some snowbird said it, it must be true!

I’ve heated mine several times over the years and it was always a somewhat negligible increase in billing.

Where did you get that I said I heated it for a week in January? I'm telling you when I did heat it, I barely noticed the increase. $100/day is far from reality and repeating hearsay as if it's factual doesn't help anyone.

How much do you think it would cost to heat a pool in January for a week? Am I off by $100 for the week? $200?

Just for fun I looked up some websites that estimate the cost of running pool heaters. I apologize if the numbers are off but this is what I have found. It costs on average roughly 4 therms per hour to run a natural gas heater. In AZ I think a therm runs roughly $1.25 per therm. So you are looking at roughly $5 per hour to run your heater in AZ. In January I'm fairly confident my $100 per day will not be a massive exageration.

Depends on how much you plan to use it. I have a pool and I enjoy an afternoon swim during the summer months.

Maintenance isn't difficult but you will need to stay on top of cleaning the baskets, back-washing and adding additional shock tablets during the summer.

When we have a dust storm or it's a very windy day I have to check the pool for dirt/debris.

But I don't mind.

I like my pool and keep it very clean.
