Westgate? What is that?
It's a big outdoor area next to the Cardinal's Stadium in Glendale. It has different stores and places to eat such as Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville (great place to eat). It also is home to the Coyote hockey arena. Very nice place to visit with the big outdoor spaces and the fountains but it's uber busy on game days!

I've heard people say thing before and I don't get why? What about a nice casino would hurt businesses in any area?

My only concern is that there is a high school (I think it's a high school...could be middle school) right at 91st and Northern so how would they get permission to build so close to a school?

The casinos here are directed toward a different demographic. I don't mean to be rude but they are aimed toward low socioeconomic people. I visited the new one in Chandler off of Kyrene and the 202. The casino was brand new but small. It lacked a buffet and a sports book. The place was filled with cigarette smoke much moreso than any Las Vegas casino I had been to. It basically had several cheap card tables. Any such casino in Glendale, it seems would be targeting snowbirds and retirees who are bored. It would be like a Laughlin casino. I just don't see it attracting young people and the Vegas crowd so another casino doesn't really excite me.

At the same time, a casino doesn't really threaten me. I think they do a good job of providing security inside the casino. My only complaint regarding these casinos is the lack of security in their parking lots. People drive really dangerously in the parking lot. There seems to be a lot of drunk drivers leaving the casino. It also seems like a place where you could easily be robbed or assaulted. I wish there were more police near these casinos because the drivers are danagerous near these casinos at night

I have a couple of friends who deal blackjack at Casino AZ and they say their crowd is all ages and some have some BIG bucks (purses/wallets full of cash). They both made close to $100k last year. It's not just low income people, please.

That's Kellis High School.
And yes, I imagine that the Peoria Unified School District will have an objection to the casino.

And as for hurting business.
Hey, what would you rather do, Go to Margaritaville for the evening? Or to a casino with a kickass buffet?

That's how it will hurt business.

Better then a Casino Buffet...

The drinks are good..the food is over priced and average. However it is the atmosphere that brings people in...

Every casino has a high roller section, slots start at 5 dollars a bet, so I doubt low income is hanging out in there I do think maybe Phoenix might end up with to many Casinos, personally I think the city has its share already.
