Heinz Lofts (Butler, Penn: apartment, lease, house)

I was on my way from the Federal Building yesterday back to Butler and I saw the Heinz Loft building. I looked it up when i got back to the office.

Any posters live there or know of anyone who does? Been thinking about moving once the lease in the current house is up in August and have been looking around lately and was just curious on any experience of the place

I had a corporate apartment there it was, okay. Management is very good. My only major complaint was the noise you can hear from not just your neighbors but other apts. They explained to me about the acoustics and how noise can be heard from other apts that are not close to yours. You can hear the bass from music, TV's that have souround systems or when someone is playing a xbox playstaton, etc is a nightmare.

yeah i figured from the open floor plan this may be an issue. i figured from living in regular apts and close to a street that neighbor noise and car music/sirens it could be tolerable. my only concern would be the kids (mine or neighbors) and the noise on the floors/ceilings.

I live in HL, have for over a year.

You can hear your neighbors, bass is the biggest culprit, but for me the instances are few and far between and easily ignorable. Overall I'd highly reccomnend it.

It is too bad about noise traveling. That is a building issue and not something that would be easily addressed now that the structure is complete. Too bad they didn't build properly, but I am sure many people don't mind. I love that pool right there though. What a great deal for swimming and exercise and it is so clean. The gardens there are also neat. I certainly don't consider that isolated, unless you are unable to walk a little or ride a bike very short distances.

I don't understand the isolated comment? I walk the 16th street bridge into the Strip on weekends, I walk the trail to Pirate games all throughout the summer, heck, I walk home from work every day.

Probably just due to the fact that to a certain degree the HL are cut off from the rest of the surrounding area by either route 28, 279/579 and the river.

Of course the river trails are great for ingress/egress and the 16th st bridge close by (although it's always longer than I think when walking) and the footbridge over 28 to the Penn Brewery, but to me at least there doesn't feel like there's much immediately around the HL.

Truthfully though, it's not too far to get to many desirable things, they're just not right around the corner.

That is just perspective. To some things have to be 100 yards to be considered close. To others it would be anything under a mile walk. I am the mile kind of person and don't pay attention to walks in that range. That means walking to the Strip would be perfect from Heinz Lofts, but to some they would freak out about walking across that bridge.

Just an aside, but the recent development plan for the Allegheny River would put a lot more stuff on either end of the 16th Street Bridge, and I think that would help make Heinz Lofts feel a lot less isolated. Of course it will likely be years before any of that happens.
