Exactly why I roll my eyes when someone suggests historical preservation on the dome. Oh the irony...

I get a kick out of people thinking, wow the lower Hill would have been great left alone. What planet are these people from? Look at the beautiful buildings in East Liberty, Friendship and Highland Park and what happened to those areas? They may never fully recover. The lower Hill would have been a slum. The depressing part are the places that have become really bad, not the places that were torn down. The lower Hill has a chance now. It would have had little chance if it still stood there as it did many years ago. You would have to relocate all those people like in the Hill District.

I am thankful that the lower Hill was wiped out. It served as a buffer between downtown and the Hill. Maybe now it will be okay? I don't know.

You are forgetting that the redevelopment of the Hill District brought in a lot of tax dollars to the City over the years. Many of those years were when the city was in very desperate need of those tax dollars.

This is probably the most important role in which the redevelopment has served. It allowed the downtown area to become what it is today.

Did I say anything about housing projects? I merely pointed out the irony of trying to preserve a building constructed by razing an entire historical neighborhood, on the grounds of history.

Yes, and in 50 years we'll read about how someone misses the sound of gunfire, and the sight of trash blowing down the streets of old East Liberty. Are you saying we shouldn't redevelopment East Liberty because some people are being displaced?
