I don't mean to offend. A friend of mine who lived in Pittsburgh four years ago said that there are a lot of seemingly angry, confrontational types in Pittsburgh. Is this true, or does she have a false perception about the place?

How would you characterize the general culture?

Thanks.

I'd say Pittsburghers are one of the most down to Earth people I've come across in America.

That is one person's opinion. I personally never heard that before. I mean not anything that you would not see in any other big city.

Actually, if anything, I think Pittsburgh has a reputation for having really friendly people - people who are kind and open with strangers.

I have to say overall ,no. The times when I have seen and/or heard angry confrontation seem to always be relationship quarelling. It's not always necessarily in person but more than once I've overheard a severe dressing down given over a cell phone.

I feel like the times in which you will likely find the most confrontational people have to be when dealing with traffic. This applies between cars, or from a car to pedestrians and bicyclists. At times, there seems to be quite the road rage around here, but then again, I can't truly say how it compares to other cities.

Overall?

If you leave them alone. Trash city council, PennDot, and Rt 28 accordingly. Don't bad mouth the Steelers or our military men and women serving overseas.

And here's the REALLY big one-- Respect the chair.
(If you don't you're going to get called a Jagoff)

They're the most easy going people I've ever met.

They'll even drive 5 miles out of their way to show you where you missed your turn off.
