As some of you may already know I have just accepted a job offer with a large financial firm here in the beautiful city of Pittsburgh. As such I'll now have health benefits for the first time in approximately a year-and-a-half. I would be interested to hear recommendations for primary care physicians, dentists, dermatologists, proctologists, optometrists/opticians/opthamologists, and perhaps even plastic surgeons (although I realize that medical insurance won't cover cosmetic procedures).

Naturally I realize not every recommended professional may accept whatever insurance I ultimately decide to elect for myself; however, if there seems to be a lot of recommended practicioners on here who generally all accept one type of insurance I may elect to pay for that insurance for that reason.

As a means of full disclosure I'm a relatively fit and healthy 25-year-old non-smoking male who rarely drinks, has rough/dry skin that he'd like to seek treatment for, and who...errrrm...has a hemorrhoid (hence the proctologist recommendation).

Thanks to everyone in advance!

Congrats on the job offer, I'm happy for you.

I'm going to suggest a dentist -- Dr. Strinkoski (known to his patients as "Dr. Dan"). I've seen a few dentists and he is without question my favorite. His office is incredibly nice, you almost never have to wait before your appointment, he has the newest technology, and he's just a super nice guy.

Here's his website: Dr. Dan Strinkosk -- Meet the Team

Primary Care - Brett Rosenblum. In Aspinwall. Small office almost conceirge type practice.

Dentist. - Dr. Fazzini - Downtown in the Park Building.

Dermatologist - Kimberly Rau - Hampton - worth the drive because you can actually get an appointment which is rare for a Dermatologist.

Dr. Robert Bernstein is an excellent internist in the Lillian Kaufmann Bldg. who is very sharp physician.

I can't recommend a rear admiral for you, but hemorrhoids are to be expected for someone driving around all day delivering food. Once you're in your new job, particularly as a young man, you'll probably get some relief. Try home remedies like the garlic suppository before you submit to hemorrhoid surgery. That kind of cutting is pretty brutal and often worse than just enduring the hemorrhoids.

Thanks! I've thoroughly reviewed his web site, and his office looks very appealing to me. I think I'll give him a try!

Thanks for the dermatological recommendation and the PCP recommendation. Looks like I'll be traveling north of the river for most of my needs.

Thanks! If the prior two recommendations for dentists don't work out for me I'll consider Pitt Dental School.

When I'm not driving I'm generally sitting in front of my PC so the "rear admiral" issues were unavoidable. Garlic suppository, you say? Do I really want my hind quarters to reek of garlic?!

Also, from what SCR has told us about his favorite foods, he doesn't eat very well. I'm guessing that eating much more fiber and whole foods and drinking water would go a long way to not haveto see a doctor about hemorrhoids in the first place.

Well, I want to select a primary care physician regardless, though. When I went to the ER after my car accident I was looked at like I was a lepper when I indicated I didn't have a PCP.

PCP - Dr. Michael Govi in Aspinwall (St. Margret's Hospital)... The only doctor I have seen that actually listens to you and your issues instead of considering you just a number. Also, he personally calls with testing results and follow-ups.

Dentist - Mine's in New Kensington, so a far drive for you.

Dermatologist - I'm looking for one as well.

Others - I had a endoscopy performed by a group in Harmar outpatient center and they seemed pretty good.

Think of the advantages--it would keep vampires away.
