At the very least calling it a symbol of southern heritage is deeply disrespectful of African-Americans, most of whom are themselves of southern descent, because it by definition excludes blacks from consideration as southerners.
I think everyone should compromise and embrace the Black Power Confederate Battle Flag:

I made mention a while back that I see that stupid starts and bars on trucks in the city proper and somebody disputed me. Since then, I have made note that I see it roughly 2-3 times a month, and it's not the same vehicle either. When the last big country show was held there was a good bit of partying in the North Side city parks early in the day, I saw the flag of the defeated quite a few times that day. The best was the girl with the confederate rag bikini, what a way to honor Southern culture. Muffin top in all its racist glory. What a spectacle.

Big country music concerts are regional events, and really don't say anything about the city proper, except that the city needs to bring in out of towners and the city is centrally located for the music fan base.

Confederate flag seen in Oakland a couple months ago: It's 2014. Knock it off with license plates and decorations like this. - Imgur

Wow, a Confederate battle flag sighting that somebody bothered to document! That's a first here!

Dude's tires deserve slashed.

You live in Athens, GA and you are offended by an old historical flag? You never see them in GA I'll bet. They may not mean the same thing to everyone.

I see it daily here; it doesn't mean I've warmed up to it. Good news is, it's proven useful in advertising who the idiots are so I can avoid them.

By the way, you'll still see Confederate battle flags pretty regularly in and around Atlanta (moreso outside I-285), but that hasn't prevented it from becoming a diverse metropolitan area anyway, so anybody who thinks that the presence of that flag is bound to drive people away is probably wrong.

Do you really feel everyone flying a Confederate flag uses it as some warning to black people or something like that? Maybe some people had relatives die in that war and it is a way of showing their respect? I don't think it means what the media makes it out all the time. The media and attorneys would like to hype things up for conflict and shock value for financial gain, so I am not sure if everyone flying that flag is doing it for some racist motive. I sort of doubt it, but uncertain.
