Oops! Yes, U Washington. Still the same ranking, #56 in National Us, not too noted in any tech program.

One way this is more beneficial for Pittsburgh specifically compared to some of the other cities is that it means that the city can retain a lot more of the people who come to study in Pittsburgh. A lot of the other cities are growing or even booming so don't have a hard time bringing people in. Pittsburgh has a somewhat harder time with that the some of the others, but Amazon would change that with there being a much easier pathway from the universities in the city to employment.

I don't get it--U Dub has a fantastic and very competitive computer science program especially on the graduate level. If it's not top 5 in the US, it's pretty close.

Interesting office space in these Amazon Spheres.
Would be cool for whatever city lands the HQ2 to get some of these.

Amazon is planning to visit each of the 20 cities to review their Dog and Pony show, likely including the size of their proposed "contribution", if selected. The content of these visits is speculated to be kept secret, under pain of elimination.
Perhaps too much emphasis on CMU, true.

But robotics and computers are central to Amazon's success. We only see the end website and that is our perception of what amazon is. Most people don't realize that much of amazon's business is hosting of online services. A rather significant percentage of all internet commerce is hosted on amazon's computers. Massive companies rely on Amazon for that. When they have an outage, a couple hundred thousand websites/companies can be affected.

Beyond their web services, Amazon is also heavily dependent on automated warehouses. Pickers fulfill orders by staying in one spot as robotic storage shelves drive around the warehouse, showing up at the right workstation so that a human can pull product out of a bin. This isn't an experiment, it's how their warehouses work today. They recently located one of their R&D warehouses in the region, probably due to the robotics and CS workforce rooted at CMU.

Certainly CMU is only a one part of the equation though. We've got that box checked but there are many others.

Hope the city can block the demand to release the city's HQ2 bid. Amazon is demanding secrecy, and this could blow the whole possible deal.

Does Pittsburgh get any bonus points for being able to win a super bowl without rioting afterwards?

Just some car burning, looting, car flipping and such. People need to let off some steam now and again in Philly. They are known for this, so it isn't really surprising. I was waiting up for it last night, but went to bed, figured it would be all over the news this morning and it is of course. Yeah, Pittsburgh is a much classier city. Not sure why there is such a huge difference in the two places, but there sure is.

I do think we get bonus points for not being a bunch of idiots after a sports team wins, but we are used to winning in our city.
