It's a 14-minute ride on the Yellow Line to Mt. Vernon Square, a neighborhood Amazonians will want to live in. Other downtown DC neighborhoods are equally convenient.

there were also several articles that leaked it to be split between crystal city and a 2nd location. Dallas was mentioned in at least one. I still think having it split into 2-3-4 locations would be better for everyone really. But from Amazons point of view, I'm sure it makes more sense to consolidate and have greater influence over an area.

Smart. Amazon is going to use multiple locations to maximize the concessions states and regions have offered.

Not necessarily. If the concessions are offered on a per-job basis, or with the requirement that certain employment levels be hit, a split could lead to smaller packages. There's also the question of what was offered in the Request For Proposal (RFP) from Amazon. If they said "make your proposal based on the assumption of an equivalent number of square footage and people that we have in Seattle" then a 50% reduction in the awarded HQ2 requirements would likely be met with some pullback in the concessions.

Or the cities will roll over for Amazon and give them 100% of what was offered just to get a little piece of the action. Who knows. The whole process has been an overly secretive ****show from day one and I'm frankly glad Pittsburgh isn't in the mix. Not because I don't want growth and good paying jobs, but because secret incentives negotiated in a horse race environment are simply bad practice for these kinds of decisions.

I read that the "second city" is Long Island City, which I believe is part of Queens and just across the river from Manhattan. It used to be a bargain area of the city but that has pretty much passed, even before this latest development.

For all the airport talk in earlier parts of the thread, if true, I find locating next to DCA and LGA an interesting choice. Both airports are at or over capacity, with bad layouts and effectively no ability to increase capacity. While those airports do have good domestic access, I am not sure how they could handle additional capacity if they need it.

Yeah but to be honest the increase traffic at those airports from Amazon wouldn't amount to a huge increase % wise
