If anyone else is on the fence, this may help you get off

1% of Americans is 3.2 million people.

In terms of Americans lives lost, that’s roughly:

5 Civil War
8 WWII’s
1000 9/11’s

They’re worth saving.

It is the new way. If you don't think like I do, you must be trash. No intelligent discussion and no opposing view. Interestingly, Wendy says she is on the fence. She is looking for others to give an opinion. Guess it is taken as she wants a bunch of people to die in order to save the economy. She said that, but she also said we want to do the right thing and save people. No one hears that part though, because they are unable to. It is not only odd, but really scary. I noticed with a lot of younger people they don't seem to have a very good attention span, so maybe they are unable to hear the whole thing? There needs to be studies on this as it seems to be very prevalent. Is it a byproduct of the Internet somehow? It might be and should be looked into because it is dangerous.

I applaud her putting things out there for discussion. She starts a tough topic says she can see both sides and lets people call and given their opinion. Our new city life hates that. There shouldn't be diversity in opinion, only one way. NO DIVERSITY!! Kumbaya, except in this case you should be hung from a tree if you don't think as I do or in this case Wendy didn't really have an opinion.

Ah well, it is city life these days.

She stated 1% as part of a run of numbers. It is to start a discussion of what is the threshold. I will try and explain it as brief as I can incase you start glazing over.

Are 10,000 people, mostly older or in poor health out of 330,000,000 worth going into a deep recession? 50,000? A million? 1%? A run.

I don't think it will make a difference if you watch the video I posted. It is like a few minutes long and you probably wouldn't listen to what she says, you would just wait for one sentence and focus on it out of context. Oops, sorry this went too long.

No, I reserve the trash moniker for those that are on the fence about the lives of others because of economic impact.

Consider my opinion given.

No, still wrong. She's trash because of her being "on the fence" about casually trading of human lives for economic gain. There's not really a worse place to be that on the fence about that.

Yes, please make it brief, simple and condescending because that's a good look for you.

Let's play your scenario out, since you're concerned about "having a discussion"

Why not put an age limit on people? Maybe once they reach 70, we should just execute them. I mean, the drain on the economy with SS and healthcare is too much, so let's just say once you're 70, that's it, you had a good life, but make room for the rest of us.

While we're at it, let's make a list of ailments....once you're afflicted with anything on the list, you get the electric chair as well. You're costing the nation too much.

Also, how about some genetic testing of fetuses? If the potential baby has any of the ailments in the list, no need to even have the birth...just terminate the pregnancy right there!

Think of how amazing the economy will be if we just get off the fence and do what's right!! You've really turned me around on this, thank you!

I will say that if we hit higher numbers only. Predictions of this seem to be all over the map and they are walking numbers back all the time, so I don't know where we will end up, nor does anyone else including the best scientists in the world.

I also know how so many people think these days. Younger for the most part focus on one tiny part of things and form an opinion. They seem to be unable to really dive into something. I find it odd. No attention span, maybe because of instant gratification from the web finding agreeable groups? Not sure, but studies need to be done.

For comparison at the moment the US averages around 600,000 cancer deaths a year. The coronavirus has killed around 15,000 so far and we don't know when we will crest? We will get a vaccine for this virus. Cancer has been killing people in huge numbers for a very long time.

Therefore, I won't say "unprecedented" because I am logical.

It is a valid discussion and you are right it can go down a slippery slope. Plan and simple when talking about disease the disease picks who is susceptible not us. Why do we not also shut down the entire country every flu season? I'm not saying these are the same but they are comparable, someone has said the number of people (same people susceptible to this) that die from the flu yearly is an acceptable loss.

So how many lives will you throw away the US economy? One?

But you didn't just give a well thought out opinion. You just called her hateful names instead of discussing a subject intelligently.

Lives are lost every second of every day. There is always a threshold and she is wanting to know what it is. So you would throw away an entire economy for one? Two? Caner is killing way more. Automobiles kill way more do you drive at all? Pollution kills countless, do you fly?

Please.
