Hey guys.

Been watching the returns tonight. Peduto had an early lead due to mail ballots, but as the election-day vote came in, Gainey kept gaining (no pun intended).

He's now about 1.6% ahead, and...Peduto has conceded.

I voted for Gainey, but I never really thought he could pull it off at the beginning. But unlike the last two black candidates who ran to Peduto's left, Gainey made big inroads across white Pittsburgh. He is winning Bloomfield, Friendship, and Lawrenceville. He's even winning precincts in Point Breeze, Shadyside, and Squirrel Hill. Ultimately it's going to end up a pretty commanding victory.

Glad to see Bike Lane Bill ousted, but willing to bet Gainey does a terrible job too. Tony was this city’s best choice.

IMO, it's a very Yinzer move to get rid of a guy who was drawing investment to the city and changing the city's image for the better. Just my outside opinion and view from the other side of the state.

You can throw OnePGH Resilience Strategy - The Need to Support People, Planet, Place, and Performance. in the garbage.

Moreno underperformed compared to Darlene Harris/Jack Wagner. Right now it looks like he's just winning Arlington, Bon Air, Lincoln Place, New Homestead, Hays, Carrick, and Overbrook. Only getting 12.6% of the vote. That's sure to rise - he's doing better with election-day voters, just like Gainey - but his past as a Trump supporter probably alienated a fair number of the "lunchpail dems"

This should be fun to watch. Gainey gonna whip the police right into shape and no doubt fix the skyrocketing crime, especially in problem areas. Wonder when the defunding will start.

Yinzers were not the ones voting for Gainey. Not for the most part anyway. The coalition seems to be black Pittsburgh + leftist white folks concerned with racial justice in the East End.

Peduto should have used the Carcetti maneuver if he wanted to win

Or said he would defund the police. That’s in vogue.

Good luck to Mr. Gainey. I am not a city voter but looking from the outside in, it was a very disappointing slate of candidates. Gainey's resume is not very impressive, based on his Wikipedia profile at any rate.

Maybe I missed this in the candidates' platforms, but I will never understand how a candidate for mayor of Pittsburgh (only 25% of the population of Allegheny County) has nothing to say about finding ways to work more cooperatively to consolodate services (dare I say annex like-minded, adjacent communities - Penn Hills, Dormont, Bellvue, Crafton, etc.) with the crazy, inefficient, inbred 130+ municipalities (!) in this county. It would certainly help leverage more state and federal resources. I think it really holds back the entire region.

By the way, what would keep Peduto from running as an independent in the general election?

Definitely a very disappointing slate of candidates, and his resume isn’t and didn’t need to be impressive. I expect some be careful what you wish for scenarios coming to fruition in the near future.
