My adult daughter and I are coming to Pittsburgh for Steelers training camp and the preseason game against the Bills. I grew up in the area and one of my fondest memories is the "school picnic" held at Kennywood every spring. Plus I've heard of the new Steeler themed coaster. I was on their site and glad to see some old favorites still going, but it said the Steel Curtain is "temporarily unavailable", but no opening date was provided. Does anyone have this information? Do they typically close rides briefly for maintenance? Or is this likely for the rest of the season (regular hours end about Aug 20 IIRC, and we'll be there 16th or 17th)?

Anymore in recent years it's a crapshoot as to what rides will be operational at Kennywood on a daily basis. There are other great classic rides there, especially the coasters, some nearly 100 years old. Go anyway and have fun. Crowds shouldn't be too bad.

I went yesterday ( Sunday 7/30/23) and the Steel Curtain was closed. I normally don't go as the price doesn't equal the overall experience of the park. Also being 6'8 I don't fit in most rides. The Aero 360 was closed as well and won't reopen until the 2024 season.

Yet, Kennywood never advises customers BEFORE paying their ticket fee as to what rides are operational and non-operational. Which would be an easy thing to do via their website or Facebook. But they won't. Which is further proof the ownership/management is inept.

That's really unfortunate in 2023.

Despite ride closures, there is still so much history remaining at Kennywood to make it worth at least an annual visit. Rick Sebak's best documentary was Kennywood Memories in my opinion. The picnics and parades, etc. So many generations have gone there. Nice memories of my dad and mom taking me. Losing the Turnpike was sad. Hope it returns at some point.

It is a great park and they seemed to fix the gang activity or at least it hasn’t been on the news lately.

I wouldn`t call it inept. I think they choose to not put this information on the website because they don`t want anyone to cancel their trip to Kennywood because their favorite ride is "out of order". In other words, it`s a business decision.

There is also little real plus side to doing it, rides often go down during the day and then back up. If something is down long term and they do not expect it to be back up anytime then that I could expect but anything else is pointless IMO. People just need something to complain about, if they published it people would also complain so for Kennywood why bother doing that extra work

I am sure everyone knows this, but just in case. This is Kennywood's 150th year and there are sales and events this year. It is all on their website.
