"In 2001, the team had 2.1 million fans in attendance. By 2010, that number had dropped to 1.4 million."

Pirates are the 4th worst in loss of attendance in the past decade. Not looking good.

not sure about that. fans seemed to respond well this year when they were doing well...tampa bay can't get fans even when they are doing well. that indicates to me that if they put a better product on the field they will increase attendance. I believe they are required to stick around for a while since they didn't pay for the new stadium (which is awesome). the pirates have raised ticket prices so the ball is now in their court to sign someone. they have a good farm system but they will need some outside talent...will they try to keep lee?

What do you expect with 19 consecutive losing seasons....I don't care how hard core of baseball fan you are, enough is enough!

Actually 1.4 million is shockingly high to me with how sickening the Pirates are...Nutting should be forced to sell the man doesn't have the resources to put a winning product on the field.

They managed to set a new attendance record at PNC Park just this season when they were showing hope for a split second. That right there is proof that if they actually become a competitive team, they'll catch people's interest and attention.

There is basically nowhere for them to go anyway. All of the cities who can and will support a team have one.

2011 attendance is at 1.8 million as of yesterday. It looks like they should finish the season with attendance up over 1.9 million.

mobing them to the nl east would probably help, and move the fish to portland, OR. florida just does not support their teams...and let's face it, summer evenings in florida aren't nice. they'd be better off part of a carribean winter ball league.

Sometimes I think it would be better if there were two separate leagues. An A league and B league. Sure would be more fun to watch the Pirates in a league away from all the powerful teams. Maybe then they could have a winning record.
