With the opening of the KGB archives and the release of the VENONA intercepts - decoded Soviet KGB and GRU traffic - it has been proved that McCarthy was absolutely right about the extensive Soviet penetration of the U.S. government in all the most sensitive sections and its danger to America. According to the KGB archives the NKVD had 221 agents in the Roosevelt administration in April 1941 and the Soviet military GRU probably had a like number. He was proved right that the Communist Party, U.S.A., was an arm of the Soviet intelligence apparatus and the Soviet Union considered the US as their "main enemy." His liberal critics in academe and the mainstream media, who denied there was Communist subversion and made excuses for it, were proved absolutely wrong! This should have discredited the liberal ideology and those who mouthed it. Because the left had no answer or effective reply to the challenge McCarthy posed, they engaged in personal destruction - they smeared and demonized McCarthy because he was truth.
Well... I'll give you a pass for plagiarizing your cut and pasted comment here, after all it has been plagiarized so many other times on the Web you might have started to believe it was yours to begin with. It was originally written in 2003... so it has had a long life among McCarthy apologists
Were the Soviets spying on America? Duh.
The problem here is the difference between what McCarthy was saying and what both the KGB Archives and the Venona intercepts show.
McCarthy had no idea who was working for the Soviets and who was not. He ultimately destroyed the careers and lives of multiple hundreds of innocent Americans because he frankly had his head entirely in rectal defilade.
So, sorry. The FBI did not show McCarthy was right. At least not about the things he is deservedly pilloried for.
You have absolutely no proof whatsoever but opinion. You are doing exactly what you guys do, discredit and personally attack, that is ALL you have. Where are your factual sources besides opinion? Of course the guy was discredited, that's what you guys do! Where is any of your proof? Where is it? There is a ton of proof out there that these things existed at the time, hence the "witch hunt" as you call it, but that was also proven right. Post some facts darling and not just attacks and opinions.

How about look at the list and see if anything they wanted has happened. I'd say the list is and has been worked on. What other group wanted this stuff to happen but the communist. Maybe the progressives? The progressives have worked very hard to erase as much history as they can.
Geez, those Communists have been trying to take over the United States for a century now, and still they haven't succeeded. They haven't even succeeded in forming a competitive political party. History's not been erased, my friend. It's just not shaping up the way the McCarthy's would have liked. Too many people just don't go for that fear-mongering schtick.
If I list Hitler's 25 points and draw parallels with the Republican party platform, are you going to comment, "They both hold a lot of similar ideas."
