Roy, Skousen touted his work in the FBI as the basis of his book. No one is denying that there was and is a Communist Party in the United States. And there should be. We are a country that supports political freedom. And that means that there will always be some political movements that are not going to match up with the goals or needs of the majority of Americans. Groups like the Communist Party, or the KKK, or the John Birch Society. We live in a society that is strong enough to withstand such movements, and is stronger for having withstood such movements. The FBI unequivocally denied that Skousen had access to information on communism through its offices. So what Skousen used to establish his credibility is false.

I really resent you impugning the character of myself and the others who've rebutted the OP on this thread.
I downloaded, printed and read that great revelatory missive during my lunch break.
I like the idea of Universal Health Care, really progressive Income taxes and much less war. I like the idea of regulating business to prevent monopolies or environmental degradation. I would drastically cut government gifts to huge agricultural corporations that drive small farms out of business and stop pharma from abusing patents for profits.
Allowing the some of the 45 items were specific to the time they were written I don't much object to such a plan. I could live quite well in that world. I could live quite well in the world of this man's nightmare.
Greg, could you tell me about the small farmers in the Soviet Union while they still had real communism? You know, the cooperatives and how much they did for the small farmers? While you are at it can you tell me how Vladimir Putin is not known as a former KGB agent by those who vote for him?
I just wondered how much you folks could tell me about why the Soviet Union didn't manage to feed their people with all the great land they had. Come ahead and let me know all of this.
You are actually the one asserting all this stuff. It's you who has to provide proof to support your assertions. What would have made him one hell of a prophet is if he'd foreseen the collapse of the Soviet Union.

FDR was absolutely right! What we really need to fear is not commies but fear itself.
One need only look at a debacle like Vietnam, caused my NO true threat of communism, only the fear of it, to see the kind of asinine foreign policy scared little drunks like McCarthy brought to this country.

I was patrolling the border with communist Czechoslovakia and East Germany in the 2nd ACR during the height of the "Cold War.' I was an officer in an American Nuclear Artillery unit stationed less than 200 kms from the border of the Soviet Union itself. My anti-Communist bona fides are well established.

But unlike you, I actually knew what it was that I was reading.
We used to drive into Czechoslovakia just to see if we could for an afternoon of fun. We did it in a good government owned Jeep and got past the border guards some how. The Italians were easy but the Czechs had to have some money.
I was there in 1956-1957 when the Cold War was anything but cold. I well remember helping pinpoint the Soviet tanks that were brought in to surround Hungary in 1956. I was RDF.
