Well duh.

Add electrical spark to gasoline-soaked cloth and what do you think happens?

The guy was asking for it but I take issue with the police department stating they don't know if a Taser can start a fire in such conditions.

Probably nothing.

I do not know, and neither do you. The spark has to be above 1200 degrees to ignite gasoline and/or its vapors. What degree does a taser spark get to? At 5 secs is it enough to generate the required heat. Unlike TV, a cigarette will not ignite gasoline either, burning end of a cig is only 600 degrees.

This is completely missing the point. Is the goal of the police to have a device that allows a suspect to be "neutralized" and immobilized without the policeman having to TOUCH the person? Why is it the goal of the police not to TOUCH the suspect? This is bizarre. Are the police absolutely in fear of something like AIDS being present in any suspect?

Please train the police to TACKLE and RESTRAIN suspects. This is low-tech, it is obvious.

so you would honestly have no issues at all with running up to and tackling someone that you have no clue who they are..

they could have a pocket full of syringes, gun(s), knive(s) and who knows what else. Plus, yes, they could have AIDS.. that's a very real possibility, especially if they're an IV drug user..

I 100% support erring on the side of the police officer.

That is a completely idiotic. The subject had doused himself with gasoline and had a lighter in hand.
If they attempted to tackle him chances are the officer would have been severely burned also.
This has to do with safety of the officers and in 99.9% of the cases, the safe apprehension and subduing of the subject.

Tasers are grossly abused by law enforcement, and people die alllll the time. It's a problem that isn't going to go away, and needs to be addressed and dealt with.
In case anyone's interested in the facts.

I'm not saying that in SOME instances, tasers shouldn't be utilized for the safety of all concerned (if used correctly and not multiple times... it IS electricity folks), but in MANY cases, it's uncalled for. When will authorities get it through their heads that a taser is still a potentially fatal weapon that should be used as a last resort, and in place of a gun, in order to not have to use a bullet. I mean, wasn't the initial point to try and minimize injury and the loss of human life?? I read in another short article where a man died after being tased 9 times. That is excessive, and police are out of control with this. I just don't understand how people can't see this, and how it's being allowed to go unchecked.

How can people be so racist? What if it were a white person instead of the latino acting stupid? Then it would have been the police fault right? The truth is "Faith", that I totally disagree with you. Illegals come here to progress to get their families out of poverty and to pay for sick families they have. Don't be racist, hard working illegals come here to do jobs that lazy white people dont want to do. Prove me wrong, tell me there is no white killers? No white drug dealers? No white robbers?? Look information up before you talk crap. Look up crimes before the 80's here and in mexico.

Browne was born in Coushatta, Louisiana. According to a Red River Parrish Sheriff, Browne grew up as one of nine children in a hardscrabble family. Tasers are much better to use then the use of a gun. Terrible as this is, this guy, wanted to kill himself, maybe he did not think clearly of the consequences, of how final a act he was thinking of doing, but he seemed to have wanted to end his life. Is there a possibility of perhaps a spark fueling something, i honestly don't know, just asking.

I hope family is going to be happy in thier new mansion paid for by the citizens of San Angelo.

What? are you saying. So your going to tell me that this victim was innocent in all this, lets see now, holding gaseoline and a lighter, perfect fit. They will probably find out that this person was a menal case, or a criminal, hell bent on destroying his own miserable life.

Wait to judge till all the facts come in, everyone rushes to judgement when a police is involved, but when someone kills a innocent police for no reason, are you wanting the police force to suit also.

Nothing to do with his skin color get over it. Has to do with this nutcase holding gaseoline and a lighter, gees perfect combo isn't it! Need to go back to NinJa School.
