When Sotomayor was in the same hotseat last year, she claimed she was for gun rights... she would interpret the constitution appropriately, blah, blah, blah. Now Kagan has the same diarrhea of the mouth as expected.

If Sotomayor was so much in favor of gun rights, why did she vote against them yesterday? She wasn't lying, oh no... 'could not be that!

Give her a chance.

I'm sure there will be many more gun laws that will come her way soon. This is only one of the first proposals that came her way and besides the law passed anyway.

It does appear that Sotomayor's opinion in MCDonald vs. Chicago directly conflicted (180 degrees) with the statement she made during her confirmation hearings.

Given that Kagen sent a memo to Justice Marshall, for whom she was clerking at the time, regarding her lack of pity for a DC resident who was challenging the DC gun ban, and stated "I have no pity" seems to pretty well point to her views being right in line with the other Progressives who want to severely limit the RKBA. That the NRA has placed a gag order on its board members during these hearings is troubling indeed.

Thus far we know from her writings that Kagen is for the severe limitations of both the 1st and 2nd amendments.

SCOTUS does not pass laws.

And the NRA has a gag order placed on them regarding testifying during Kagan's hearings. Who knows what's going on inside the NRA anymore.

NRA Discourages Board Members From Testifying Against Kagan

"Of three NRA board members I contacted, only one confirmed "explicitly and directly" receiving any sort of directive that could be interpreted as a "gag order" regarding Kagan. But all three sources confirmed that NRA board members actively opposed to Sotomayor's confirmation have been severely chastised "to the degree that they would not speak out against Kagan" (as one board member – who requested anonymity – told me)."

What are you - a racist? Cut her some slack. I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.

But they interpret the extent of existing laws. That alone can have wide ranging effects..just like this gun ban ruling.

And what does that have to do with her flip flopping in the span of a year ?
And the previous poster said nothing to indicate racist feelings.

I agree with the OP.

This nation is losing its solid footing - inch by inch, day by day - with the incessant lying coming from our leadership. When words are merely selling points to get a job, we have a major problem in this country. Especially when those words affect all of our lives. Call me a doom and gloomer all you want, but the fact that Sotomayor's earlier words contradict her most recent actions are just one more example that we cannot trust the government that we have put in place.
