I've been reading a lot of thread's about smoking (tobacco/marijuana), homosexuality and other controversial topics such as those, obviously people have different views on these subjects. Which in my mind, is fine, because it makes for a good debate. But what is mildly annoying to me is seeing people complain about these things that they don't even partake in. (Such as tobacco use)
I just want to know why it would great if they made the use of tobacco illegal, and the person complaining about it doesn't even smoke, or dip. Why do so many people think that their lifestyle is the correct one, or the one that is suitable for everyone? And why would making something illegal that you don't even do change your life?
We're all connected in one form or another.
When I have to pay for (some of) your medical costs or the general 'fallout' from your meth addiction.
Not that you have a meth addiction...just using an example.
And not that I agree with making all 'unhealthy' things illegal...
but since you seemed to earnestly want to know.
Well I'm not a Meth addict. But I understand the example.
If someone bans smoking because of it's health risks then with that mentality they should ban all the fast food chains as well. You'd still be paying for someones medical costs, just instead of lung cancer, it's going to be diabetes, and heart problems.

And the music choice isn't half bad.
This is all true. Kind of the irony of the American health debacle. Americans freak out over the concept of UHC but meanwhile want to gloss over the risks we endure from excessive fast food consumption (we have a lot of FAT people in our nation) and in general act as if, health wise, we're "all good." Hardly. What percentage of parents are medicating their kids these days? Too many. What percentage of parents are going through the "drive thru" for dinner (quick and easy) without realizing the long term damage that' s going on when your kid grows up thinking of fried chicken as a family meal. Hmmm

Exactly, they are way more people sliding through the drive thru for dinner than actually cooking in their homes.
I feel like a lot of people also think that tobacco is way worse because there is so much more negative information that's given to the public. (I feel like I'm not making sense, haha.) I'm like saying that you don't see commercials for fast food joints to NOT eat there, but you see commercials telling you that tobacco is bad, when the fast food will eventually ALSO give you health problems.
And your right kids do think that fast food is a family meal, which is so upsetting and shouldn't be the way it is.
I have always been of the mind, do what you want. But the second it involves or effects me it becomes my problem-such as smoking cigarettes. I hate them, but I'm not going to tell you not to do them [I do advocate a heavy taxation on them], but the second that smoke hits my face, a precedent is set.

Just wondering. Thanks.
To some extent your right in that there are alot of bad things like abuse of alcohol'drug use;etc.I have no problem as long as the person is willing to take the conseqauence and not rely on me paying for their choice. That would include not being in teh same pol, on insurance as me. That wopuld also include not having SS disabilty related to that useage. That is where the real issues come in for to public cost;plus the second hand smoke issue. But the the death toal on highways because of alcohol abuse is just as bad really.
