Where will the ceiling stop??? I am sick and tired of being the generation the pays for everything. If this IS voted in...there should be a grandfathered clause for those of us who have 30years or more into the system. We entered the system with one expectation and we will NEVER be able to retire with full benefits. Just when we get close...it all changes AGAIN!!!!! I understand they need a change, but those of us who paid our due over the years and worked a specific number of years should be grandfathered in to the CURRENT standard. Thirty years in or more...should be a good round number!

If one has the economic wherewithal, they can retire whenever they want.

The age has been increasing for over a decade.

So the next generation should be longer and pay for your decades of retirement?

Maybe you'd rather pull the plug on granny so she's not taking any more money so you can retire?

Here's a better idea. Save more money. Cut back on your expenses. Then retire on your own.

The sense of entitlement oozes in this thread.

This, is of course, the result of spending, spending, and more spending. The money have to come out of somewhere; it does not grow on trees like you *******s think it does. Us younger guys are going to pay for this for the rest of our lives. Gee, thanks, for the burden you've put us onto.

Anyone can retire at any age. People would be so much better off if we would simply retire on our dime and quit depending on government.

The problem today is that there are fewer and fewer people that have the ability to retire on their own dime. That is an inherent problem with transferring wealth to the upper "class".

I partially disagree. Those stuck in minimum wage will never be able to save. Eventually health problems occur, housing in many places is overpriced and so is transit because in most situations a car is necessary. Not to mention unemployed periods of time, etc.

Those in the lower class are forced to work until their bodies fail them, then they might as well be sent over to the "hall of the useless" as Ayn Rand put it in Anthem. (funny that capitalism can produce the same things that she feared communism would)

Those in the middle and upper classes have no one to blame but themselves.

Don't worry it's just a Republican agenda, and you can thank John Boehner for that one, plus many more. Republican's are trying to re-launch the story and play down Boehner's part in it.

Sad really.

Yes. I would have opted out of SS had I known you could.
The fund has been robbed by past administrations for other than SS.
The fund has expanded to include people who never paid into it (and I'm not talking about spousal SS once the recipient dies).

It certainly didn't turn out the way FDR imagined it when it got created.
And the Supreme Court has ruled that SS is not "a right" (Flemming v. Nestor - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia).
So the gov't CAN take your money but is not obligated to return it to you via SS.

If the Fed wanted to, they can end SS tomorrow and all recipients are up the creek with no recourse.

Rubbish! Anyone can do it. Just have a budget and stick to it.

If you want upper class, earn higher first...not act like a $30,000 millionaire.
