http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/12/op...12luttwak.html It's understandable why people can be confused. The liberal New York Times asserts, "As the son of the Muslim father, Senator Obama was born a Muslim under Muslim law as it is universally understood.".

But who cares?

Obama goes around defending Muslims all the time while claiming that Christians are bitter and cling to the Bibles.

Obama would never utter such a malice statement about his brethen.

There are probably quite a few Americans who also believe that Christopher Columbus "discovered" America. Just because someone decided to take a poll doesn't automatically mean that everyone has to go by its results.

I picked "other" because "who cares" wasn't an option...

You liberals are such hypocrites. You ***** and moan about religious equality, but when people think Obama might be a Muslim, you cry bigotry.

If it doesn't matter what his(anyone's) faith is, why the uproar? Just because people think he's a Muslim, doesn't necessarily mean they despise him for it. You liberals make that little connotation yourselves.

^^ Oh no?

So no one has called anyone a bigot, in this thread alone?

Oh, right.

Edit: Nice ninja post deletion.

Nearly 1 in 5 Americans now believe Obama is a Muslim
Can't really blame them considering how he has behaved.

He has embraced the muslim world at the expense of other nations, like Israel.

He has alienated traditional allies.

In 2007, in an interview with Cristoff of the NYTimes, he said the muslim call to pray was the most beautiful sound in the world. Now, would a true Christian believe that? In fact, he was able to recite it right there, in perfect dialect.

Anybody got the first couple lines of that little ditty?

He was raised a muslim while in Indonesia.

Looks like the anti-Obama propagandists are winning this particular argument - pathetic as it may be.
People often believe what they want to believe and dismiss reality. Obama wouldn't be the first victim. I'm often mistaken for George Clooney even if no one actually says so.

Huh? I'm not crying bigotry at all, but I do think the poll highlights the ignorance and stupidity of many Americans.

It's a concern because it's obviously wrong to say that Obama is a Muslim. It's factually incorrect. Of course, if you want to be factually incorrect, that's your choice. Perhaps the Earth is flat too. If you believe Obama is a Muslim (even when he's obviously not), I guess you'll believe anything.

Even sadder is that the White House now feels a need to respond:

White House says Obama is Christian, prays - Politics - White House - msnbc.com
