How dumb can Americans really be? Isn't anyone suspicious that major corporations are pushing the amnesty for illegals and open borders? Why do you think that is? Do you think they are doing it to "improve American's lifestyles"? Come on! They are doing it so they can massively profit from cheap labor and pay Americans less due to the overinflation of the US workforce!!
Isn't anyone suspicious when Democrats get major corporate funding in 2006 and for their presidential campaigns and claim to be "for the regular people" and then almost immediatelly start an amnesty push, which lowers US wages?
Isn't it suspicious how John McCain gets all tough on the war on terror and yet he refuses to protect America's borders from terrorists??
HOW DUMB DO YOU THINK AMERICAN POLITICIANS REALLY THINK WE ARE?!?
It emphasizes the ridiculously failed argument that we have to fight the terrorists "over there" or else they will follow us and we'll have to fight them here..... when the government will not protect the border or enforce existing U.S. law. If "they" come here...guess where they're coming in? Every time I hear that argument I think of the person pushing it.... what a crock!
You're right, the president and his cronies and rich big business love having the country flooded because then they keep salaries down and make more money.
For what it's worth, I voted that Americans are "dumb" to believe in corporations and "dumb" to believe in the government. While that might seem contrary to some, I believe that there is a middle ground to free-market capitalism and government socialism. It appears that the US and Canada might be heading towards the same middle on that policy.
NG,
Good question, although I'm not sure that I agree with you on corporations being for amnesty...but I don't have anything hard to back that up with, so if you have some examples of "fishy" behavior from big $$ about this issue, please post.
However, I think in general, politicians think we're pretty dumb. Especially those politicians who cater to issues that provoke the most emotion; the drama some of these political leaders "create" for us is ridiculous...but again, why do we buy it?? Are we so dumbed-down now that we don't question our information sources or the political statistics that get thrown at us every day?? I have a great fear that we ARE getting that stupid...and that we let ourselves be led far too easily. However, I believe the ultra "anti" crowd is still the minority, thank God, and politicians might be picking up on that one...Dems have divided their own party almost beyond repair, with the ultra libs clashing with more moderate folks...and the anti-Bushies give one President faaaaarr too much credit for "wrecking our nation." Do these folks really think the entire middle east debacle (up to and including Iraq) has been caused, executed, and perpetuated by one President in 8 years of time? They have never picked up a history book. Extremism does not win you the election, and I think that idea might be sinking in....but I'm not sure. Thought provoking post.
I just wnat to make sure we all know that I do NOT think Americans are dumb.
I think politicians THINK we are dumb.
I love America every much and I wnat to know what you guys think about what politicians are doing that help/hurt America.
I think the illegal immigration issue clearly shows that liberal Republicans and Liberal Democrats are all the same in this matter. The Liberal Reps cave in to corporate interests for cheap labor and Liberal Dems cave in to unions and their own desire of re-building the American welfare nation (as African Americans leave that horrible system and get good jobs and education and become conservatives and moderates, usually despising the liberal welfare system).
Does anyone think major corporations care about the American people?
Does anyone think illegal aliens in our country help American wages go up?
Is anyone suspicious of the hue surge of Democrat corporate contributions for 2008 cadidates from major corporations and special interests? The Democrats have attacked Reps for years over contributions and now they are taking them left and right??
How about the Republican liberal candidates for 2008 trying to decieve the public as "conservatives" (aka. Rudy Giuliani and John McCain)? >_<
How do you feel about these stunts pulled by politicians on BOTH sides of the isle?
Does anyone think major corporations care about the American people?
Of course not. When have they ever? This is not a uniquely American tragedy. In what culture and in what time and what location have politicians ever been across-the-board devoted to the people rather than their own interests, or has business ever been about helping others rather than making money? That's not cynicism--it's business, and it's power. I don't think we hold the market on that.
By the way, you left out "...Dumb enough to continue to be rabidly partisan, believing that our own party is the one that cares more for us than for themselves" on your poll.
Those with money and influence have always, and probably will always, hold power in any given society, and the best we can do is find the ones who, for whatever reason, will try to help us more so than allow us to be hurt. Unless you're banking on the return of Camelot.
It's also kinda cute how you managed to sneak in ".../Liberals" on the Dem choice.
Can we add our own unilateral judgements to the other choices too? I mean just to spice things up...
I know you said you want to hear viewpoints from both sides of the aisle...excuse me, isle...but your poll and opening statement are, well, a hair transparent.
Just thought I'd put that in...since you're wondering just how dumb others may think we are. I'm letting you know that we aren't THAT dumb.
I voted that Americans are dumb to believe in Democrats, Republicans, Corporations, and Government. I find it amusing that I'm the only one that clicked "Republicans" in that vote (to this point). Do people honestly think Republicans are going to save this country?

The liberals got put in because a huge chunk of Democrats ARE liberals.
Conservatives only have "streaks" as I call them if they are socially conservative or not. Most Republicans have the same beliefs (lower taxes, less government, etc) except they differ on social issues (amensty for illegals or not, abortion or not, etc).
Hey is anyone happy that Microsoft want UNLIMITED H-1B visas for foreign workers who have a Bachelor's Degree or higher and want these workers to stay forever?? Did anyone see that Lou Dobbs report about how Microsoft is paying these workers at least $16,000 LESS than they would have to pay someone who graduated from ITT Tech or another American school???
Nancy Pelosi seems to be ok with Microsoft's plan. After all, she got a nice $200,000 contribution from them in 2006! Anything think the Microsoft H-1B plan will raise wages for US computer people?

I don't think that's it, but many more people are darn sure Liberals (mostly Dems) aren't going to save it, either. I wish the Democratic party would go back to what it used to stand for (or at least SAY it stood for)...the working person, family, and morality. Instead, in general, the Dem. party has glommed on to every special interest group and become the party for animal rights, Greenpeace, and gay issues...not what most of us here really feel are the crucial issues dividing and damaging our country and our world.
