Senate: Bill to prevent off-shoring of jobs to be killed by Republicans (party affiliation, Reagan)

This bill would not be fair to our trade partners abroad. What if Germany, Korea, or Japan enacted similar legislation? Companies from those nations have literally thousands of manufacturing plants and supply webs in the US. If Japan enacted a law that taxed outsourcing from their companies, the states of Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia could easily add another 20% to their unemployment rates as several automotive assembly plants and their suppliers close their doors. Kia alone accounts for nearly 100,000 jobs between Alabama and Georgia.

So long as a single foreign country has a manufacturing plant in the USA we are hypocrites when it comes to criticizing outsourcing.

After all this, the US is still one of the largest manufacturing economy in the world, and one of the few post-industrial nations with its manufacturing sector intact.

Here's the real deal: America punishes American companies for doing business in America and hiring Americans. It isn't that we "give tax breaks to American companies who ship jobs overseas" as the President says, in one of the most cynical and damaging pieces of rhetoric he employs.

Now, when American companies build plants overseas to build products for overseas markets, Obama wants to reach across the ocean and whack those earnings, too.

Why not stop penalizing American companies for doing business in America, and do what the whole rest of the world does with overseas earnings?

We could have a boom on our hands, with rising incomes and markets and jobs, if the president would only declare a cease-fire in his war on capital instead of trying to turn it into a world war. Maybe he'll get a clue from the November elections; otherwise we will have to wait until 2012.

From what we have seen coming from behind the locked doors of the democratic majority, I'd love it if nothing more was voted on, just send them all on vacation until after the new congress and senate gets sworn in.

The 2011 fiscal year begins Oct. 1 and none of the 12 annual spending bills have been approved yet.

Leave it to politicians and lawyers to make the process incomprehensible.

The simple solution to bring back industry - offshore GOVERNMENT!

Reduce the size and expense of the Federal government by 96%.

In fact, eliminate all taxes on production and labor.

I suspect that the expectation of zero tax, zero administrative overhead, zero government meddling would attract companies to relocate to the USA.

But, of course, such statesmanship can not be found upon the shores of the Potomac.

Because government is a cancer that grows until it is either radiated, drugged or cut into irrelevance--or it kills the host. The host (our economy) is barely functioning and hope of a decent quality of life for the next generation of Americans seems to be limited to the Political Class and those already retired and getting pensions plus Social Security.

Another local restaurant just closed here in Southern NH after 29 years of business on Route 1. I guess they didn't get the memo from Washington that the Depression (let's call it what it is) supposedly ended a year ago this June. They certainly did get the memo about impending Health Care mandates, which is devastating for labor-heavy businesses like restaurants.

I look at the commercial properties going up for foreclosure auction here in NH and wonder how any business can generate so much income as to pay $100,000 a year in property taxes, off the top. Are they getting $100,000 a year in government services? Of course not. And obviously, most businesses can't survive that kind of loss.

It is so sad to see NH go back to being the place I grew up in, where we had only one movie theater and no Kentucky Fried Chicken or Taco Bell. At least back then we had lots of open space and wildlife.

Time for some major Libertarian surgery.
