The grass is always greener on the other side. I do frequently find that some of the most anti-American people out there are in fact American. But I don't think most of them want to live in Europe, they just want the US to be different. And they like to complain - some people will find something to complain about no matter what.
I'm an American living in the UK but I still love and miss America and want to return eventually.
America, the land of milk and honey, is a horrible perpetual myth. In reality it has become a thoroughly feminized, and corrupt police state. The US has the highest ratio of incarceration in the entire world. Its the modern day Roman Empire. They use words like "freedom" as a punchline and so called "patriots" eat it up. I'm not saying its the worst place in the world, but its not the place the powers that be portray it to be.
Its only a matter of time before fear, gives way to frustration.
