I was actually suprised to read this. I figured that the Tea Party was pretty much a creation of big business. After all they both hate the Democrats and President Obama and they both have the same goals which is to destroy the working people.
But it appears that not even big business can stomach the Tea Party anymore. They are running like scalded jackrabbits from it. They have only endorsed one Tea Party candidate, Marco Rubio, and only because he has pretty much renounced the tea party stands he took to win the primary.

The TEA Party is not a political party, the name was just a catchy phrase plucked from the pages of history, and named after an incident where Americans rebelled against a perceived tyranny.

The TEA party is a movement that asks government to be be more responsible with our taxes and to follow more closely to the US Constitution, and to respect our rights and liberties, like the environmental movement asks government to respect the ecology of the planet. There are many groups supporting both movements.

This is where pragmatism finally meets idealism. Big business knows that Rand Paul et.al. would have let the banks fail, let GM and Chrysler fail and would have voted against TARP that greatly benefited the Chamber of Commerce and their cronies.
Business may not like to admit it, but, they get all kinds of advantages from the government that help them compete in a global marketplace, mitigate against the costs of compliance with federal regulations and the like. They aren't going to support anyone they perceive wants to stop that money train.

I am not surprised at all. The TEA party movement is against bailing out "too big to fail" banks and corporations for example.

The reason there is so much negative propaganda about the TEA party is that the elite fear it. They are much more comfortable with Democrats and establishment Republicans because they represent business as usual including endless bailouts (paid for by the middle class taxpayer).

When hyperinflation kicks in due to our massive debt load, we'll all be Tea Party members. By then, it will be too late.

That's probably where theory departs from reality. Take a look at the people supporting this "movement." Do you honestly believe they have any interest in the tenets you've described? They're basically just a bunch of yahoos out on a power grab.

They're also nothing new. And I refer to the American Party (often called the Know Nothings) who took the national spotlight in the late 1840s and early 1850s. This "Tea Party" will go the way of the Know Nothings. And just about as quickly.

Consider the source. It's an opinion piece. There's a title and then there's the word "could" in the opening sentence. All I can say is that I "could" be an up and coming billionaire in the making, capable of exacting my will upon the struggling American economy, now who'll admit they're skeered?

They aren't a "movement" at all. They are funded with big money, and are just Republicans cry babies upset that they lost. If they had an ounce of integrity they would have formed 5 years ago. Not surprisingly the "movement" started once we had a black guy in office with a funny name.

I wasn't surprised--it makes perfect sense. Both social and economic stability is good for big business--that's why they're nervous about proposals coming out of the tea party on dramatically cutting federal agencies, elimination of the federal reserve, etc. Big business takes care of big business--they don't want the climate control legislation or any other type of regulation, any type of health care reform that might cost them money, or restoration of the tax rate pre-Bush on upper income people, so they're not supporting Dems in national races. They want the status quo they had under the Bush years.

I've said this over and over--the GOP is using the tea party voters--they're talking the talk to get elected and manipulate the voters, but they have absolutely no intention of going ahead with the tea party agenda. Those tea party candidates that get elected are going to find out really quickly that they'd better tow the majority neocon republican line or they'll be cut off at the knees. It's the same thing that happened with the social conservatives from Reagan on down--they used them to get elected, threw out tidbits of legislation to pacify them that they knew would never pass (it was always the Dem's fault, even if the R's weren't strongly backing it--they wanted it to fail too). FOX news is leading the pack for the GOP and it's a huge propoganda campaign--convince the people that the other side is evil, vs. focusing on the issues themselves. Sorry folks, but you're being duped.

They are not just a bunch of yahoos. I'm sure some individuals are but not the group as a whole. Political surveys have found tea partiers are more educated and affluent than average. They are also more informed than the average American, not "know nothings" by any means. But the TEA party is not part of the elite political class. If it goes away it won't be because the members are ignorant, it will be because the elite have successfully stigmatized it to the point it can't recover.
