Please explain "honest living taken away from them". The bottom line is, we NEED this bill because the industry is unable to regulate itself - it's been proven in the past 2-3 years. No one is saying the small guys can't do business, but they need to follow the same rules as everyone else.
you want an example of how regulations kill small business. ok:
No, what I mean is, provide a specific example of how THIS bill would have small business' "honest living taken away from them".
did you watch the video? did you get to the point where george hahn said that the originator of the legislation, said that it was never "intended" to cover natural, non toxic materials. funny how once you give bureaucrats a finger, they end up taking the whole arm. another thing you obviously didn't rtead is the article in the op. perhaps if you read it you might get a little understanding as to how the real world works

Watched it twice, never once heard the words "Food", "Safety", "Modernization", "Act". Sorry, try again. Your video has nothing to do with the FDA or food safety, only the EPA for entirely different matters.

Did you read the article in the OP? Are you familiar with Joel Salatin (the author of the article) and his Polyface farm? Salatin and farmers like him are doing everything in their power to protect our food sources by encouraging sustainable agricultural practices. They do NOT represent a threat to anyone's health or safety.
I don't mean to sound accusatory but I'm not sure you're getting the entire picture.
These regulations have little to do with safety and are put in place to protect the interests of big agriculture.
For the earlier poster who blamed it all on Obama (sigh), get back to us when the Republican House introduces and pushes for a bill to create more reasonable regulations.

I can certainly understand Mr. Salatin's frustration. It is unfortunate however that a lot of recent foodborne illness outbreaks have come from SMALL businesses. I'm not saying the bill is perfect, but the reality is, something has to change.

Can you point to an instance of foodborne illnesses coming from small businesses? Haven't the majority of e-coli outbreaks in beef come from factory farms and slaughter houses? What about the contaminated bagged greens. Are they coming from small farms or factory farms? And the eggs? Was that from free roaming, grass fed chickens, or factory chickens?
I might be wrong, but I believe the bulk of the problems have come from factory farms.
It all depends what you consider "small". One particularly notable incident is a repeating offender, the Estrella Family Creamery in Washington state. Ironically, the family's viewpoints are much like the views of the people that oppose the bill. They've had several recalls this year alone.
