Oh no, not at all. I go back and forth between a perverse pleasure seeing this guy thrown out on his butt after his successful experiment of turning MSNBC into a left-wing circus and the other side of the coin, hoping he stays around so people will know what an absolute raving lunatic he is.

Oh well, the decision has been made. I'm all a-tingly.

Too many were hearing him? He hit his ratings ceiling and was stuck there, coming in worse than Fox's lowest rated show. Who is "they"? The bigwigs at NBC/MSNBC had enough of the arrogant egomaniac.
Who cares what Brokaw thinks? He's far past his prime and is a pretty serious conservative in his old age.

Guess you didn't notice that the very well-respect Tim Russert was very supportive of Olbermann. It wasn't until after Russert died that Browkaw had any real say in what happened over there.

It was a very bad business deal by the "bigwigs" at MSNBC/Comcast. They paid big money I'm sure to silence their host of of the channel's top rated show.

Russert would NOT have approved or supported the current day dobermann. Not a chance.

Obviously, they thought shelling out $14+ million was well worth getting rid of him and I agree.

YES, Russert DID strongly support Olbermann, and WOULD HAVE TODAY continued in that support of Olbermann.

After Russert's death, Brokaw butted in and changed so much of the lineup on MSNBC. When Russert and Olbermann were on air together it was clearly evident that Russert liked and respected Olbermann. In fact, Olbermann gave him a special thanks as he signed off Friday night. I watch MSNBC and I saw these people working together, and Tom Browkaw looked like he had swallowed a very bitter pill when he saw the interactions between Russert and Olbermann. In fact, Russert literally beamed at Olbermann when he (Russert) was the first one on election night to project that Obama had won!

If you bothered to read further I mentioned how Olbermann did in fact go to extremes on occasion. I disagreed with him on many issues. However, I tend to favor the left side of the political spectrum because it has its act together. The right does not make any sense to me, especially when it expresses its anger. The post I responded to exemplified that rage by taking pleasure at the pain of others. If this too is your philosophy then there is no need to discuss this further.

Russert reigned them all in, he brought a level of credibility and professionalism to what MSNBC was and how they did business. There is no way he would have supported what Olbermann had become or what had become of all of MSNBC's primetime programming for that matter. It was a disgrace, the network had basically descended into the lowest common denominator of what journalism is.

You do realize that Russert died in June of 2008, don't you?

Olbermann had already established himself on MSNBC by that time. Russert obviously supported the very liberal Keith Olbermann before his death. By June of 2008 MSNBC was ALREADY a channel which was clearly providing a liberal perspective. And Russert did support Olbermann as recently as about two and a half years ago prior to his death.

MSNBC has not become a "disgrace" to everyone. What does it take to get through the message that MSNBC is rated second among the cable news channels. Geeeezzz.

This is what Olbermann said on his last show Friday night:

"Keith Olbermann said that Tim Russert has been his greatest protector and indefatigable cheerleader”. “

And it was obvious that Russert was proud of Olbermann and Chris Matthews and Nora O'Donnell, Andrea Mitchell, the whole lineup!

Geeezzz, the revisionist "history" which is being written on this site is just amazing!

MSNBC's coverage of the 2008 presidential election was a disgrace. Russert was dead and so was professional journalism at the network. There is no way he would have supported their coverage, I don't care what Olbermann said. Russert wasn't there to see him at his worst. He wasn't there to see them turn into Obama's cheer team.

Ratings don't mean a network is credible or professional either, which was what Russert was all about. The man spent decades building up his credibility and was respected by people from all political viewpoints. No way he would have thrown that away for Olbermann.

I made it a point to turn on Countdown from time to time from a purely inquisitive angle. I like to know what the enemy is plotting. What bothered me most about Keith Olbermann is that he purported himself to be the purveyor of truth when when everyone else in the business was telling lies (at least according to him). I'll give him credit...he's very convincing to those who don't know any better....but since I do keep up with what's going on in the world....it was very easy for me to discern that he's full of nothing but half-truths, and in alot of cases, he was outright wrong. But no one took him to task. He didn't have guests or panels to call him out. Very rarely did he seek an opposing opinion from a conservative. And those that he did speak with were lightweights. (Ed Schultz does the same). So he basically had unfettered access to promote his erroneous theories. Sadly, too many of his followers beleived him. Many of them are right here on this forum.

Good riddance as far as i'm concerned.

I don't consider MSNBC to be journalism (and I'm a liberal). When I want journalism and news, I go to PBS, NPR, Minnesota Public Radio, CBC and the BBC. When I want entertaining liberal commentary, I watch MSNBC. The key difference between MSNBC and Fox is that MSNBC knows it is primarily a network for left-leaning political commentary. It doesn't present itself as "fair and balanced news," while Fox does, which is a huge lie on Fox's part.
