Given the fear-mongering that seems part of every GOP campaign I have my doubts the spirit of the drunk Senator from Wisconsin has ever been far from the Capitol Building.

McCarthy methodology? You mean his mimicry of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin's "A lie told often enough becomes truth"?
And just WHAT "50s guys" are you talking about? Usually lost in the right wing blather supporting the lying drunk is he would accuse large groups of being COMMIES! and if one or two proved so they claim he was 'right'.
Peter King for President? Lusting for more witch hunts in the US?

What you righties forget is that it got waaaaaay out of hand and once he started going after the Military they put a halt to his witch hunt. You may think this sort of thinking is fine but Americans will not put up with another round of McCarthyism.

well....... yes and no.
the mccarthy hearings are usually confused, or mentally blended, with the house committee on un-american activities ( HCUA ). mccarthy's "list" of communists in the government/military is generally accepted today as complete bull-squishy and an example of extreme political grandstanding. mccarthy never released the names on his list ( and the number on the list perpetually zig-zagged ) so there is no way of knowing if there were any communists on his list. if i had to place a bet on the subject........ i'd bet everything i had that the man was just talking out of his a-hole.
the HCUA hearings did "out" many people that had been members of the american communist party. my personal favorite being sterling hayden, american hero, great actor and briefly....... a communist. one big problem tho.... it has never been illegal to be a communist in this country. during the depression communism was a moderately popular concept so it's not surprising that in the 1950's the HCUA were able to find people that had been members.
