I think the chance to go metric has passed. It's something that we should have done in the 90s, but we missed the chance.
The fact is, many state Departments of Transportation made the switch in engineering to metric in the 80s and 90s. Since metric was never widely adopted, they have switched back or are currently switching back.
At this point we'd have to be switching for the third time, so it'd just be silly.

That is true. Most Chinese women I know are size zero and, even then, they often have trouble finding things small enough to fit them.
