Supreme Court rules for anti-gay church over military funeral protests - CNN.com

The SCOTUS has ruled in favor 8 to 1 to support freedom of all speech, even the despicable kind that comes from Westboro Baptist. I actually agree with the Supreme Court but not the church if you follow my logic. Do you agree with the Court's decision?

No. This is why we need to throw out the first amendment and ban hate speech.

I agree with it.

They are despicable, but being despicable isn't a crime in this country.

Why are they protesting military funerals? Some have said it's just an opportunity to get an audience for their anti gay protest, but they hold signs saying dead soldiers are a good thing, etc, so they do seem to be targeting soldiers specifically. Why?

The Court was right in this decision, IMO. But, like others, I do not support the message that these people spread and I do find it terribly dishonorable for them to do this.

Seriously, you have a right to hate anything you want and speak your mind. Adversely, somebody else has the right to blast you for your hate speech and beliefs.

I think they got the law right, but at a grave yard I would still think yelling and bothering people are disturbing the peace.
If they are screaming at people burying their loved ones it should be arrestable IMO.
I'm saying that if the laws are not there in place for graveyards and services, maybe Congress should get cracking and start the process of getting one.

We are not allowed to yell fire in a movie theater, so we could IMO live with restrictions at graveyards or services.
Just my opinion. :-)

Who cares why, they should have the right to do so.

They could have carved out an exception if they wanted to.

But it's a dangerous game to play with the law.
