And that is fine. But not something new either. No? Do you think that wasn't something being done when the economy was losing hundreds of thousands of job every month? Or when the unemployment rate was low?

When it was worse I used the same figures,or the U-6 figures.

When unemployment was so low it wasn't an issue.

I'm not crying about anything although there is some anecdotal evidence that this labor department is a bit more fast and loose with the data than others in the past. Job openings are way down and, around the turn of the year, I heard that the total size of the labor market was reduced such that a group of people with a 100% UE rate was removed. The numbers are arbitrary, but it was along the lines of they went from 16M unemployed out of 120M, to 14M/118M, which would lower the UE rate.

I've been talking about meaningful data the whole time. I've said over and over that the spending has to be cut and we need to make our Economy more competitive through lower taxes, mandates and regulations. We need to repeal Obamacare and Dodd Frank and reform entitlements. You're right that criticizing the BLS numbers will not solve the problem, but people need to realize that these numbers are being manipulated to make things look better than they are.

From your view point, does it look like the Economy is improving? We have rising prices, fewer jobs, more regulations, more debt and a weaker currency. Regardless of what the Government says, these factors remain which means the Economy is getting worse and worse.

Just assess the situation for yourself with the facts you have at hand. If you're honest about it, I think you'll realize that things continue to decline.

LOL!! Doesn't everyone just LOVE how now that Obama is in office, we MUST use the U6 "real unemployment" rate? Everything else is wrong leftist propaganda.

So, when Dubya was in office, pre-recession, with his "low unemployment", according to the U6 "real unemployment" chart, the unemployment rate was actually fairly high. But of course not a peep from our right wing friends because you know....

Newsflash you fools: the official rate of unemployment is 8.9. This measurement has been used forever, and we're not going to switch to a different format simply because it shows the current president in a positive light.

Within a few months Americans will look back on 18.9% unemployment longingly. Americans need to stock up on non-perishable food and plenty of ammunition if they want to survive to see 2012.

Too many people are living along Da'Nile.
This "recession" is just like all the others and the US will bounce right back as strong as ever..right ?

The only statistic that really means anything is the employment participation rate. As you can see in this article it is still dropping. Unemployment numbers that count

Of course you will never see that statistic plastered on all the main stream media. It does not give you the point of view the government and corporations want you to have. They will instead pump you full of manipulated statistics that give you a warm fuzzy feeling that everything is getting better.

When you have less that 64% of eligible workers employed, and the number continues to deteriorate, there is certainly nothing to feel good about.

Things will not begin to turn around until people stop being such a bunch of suckers and stand up and demand change.
