As opposed to the conservative spending of the current administration?
The lines have been blurred. I don't care much for yellow-dogs either, but if it's a choice between that and more of the same. Well, I'll take my chances.
Tell you what, let's see if you can label me..
I believe in...
1. I believe we should have a single flat tax, period. No property, sales, state, or local. The federal government should collect it, and disburse the appropriate amounts to states based on the total reported income. Oh, I had to edit for this. NO DEDUCTIONS! Want a kid credit? Don't have'em. Want mortgage interest credit? Get a better loan. NO more deductions. You should be able to do your taxes on a cocktail napkin.
2. I believe abortion is a choice for the parent, not for the voters or clergy.
3. I believe in social programs, provided they LEAD somewhere. There must be a clearly defined set of goals and milestones, and there should be an end point.
4. I don't believe in the war in Iraq, but I did believe in the war in Afghanistan. I also believe we should be considering military action in Pakistan, but that's just me. (the real threat, who has nukes, not Iran)
5. I think the word "married" should be removed from our legal system. All marriages should be referred to as civil unions, and any two people should be allowed to get one. Marriage, should be something left up to organized religion.
6. Substance abuse. I believe 1 strike, you can handle rehab yourself. 2 strikes gets you mandatory 6 months rehab. 3 strikes gets you 5 years in jail. No bargains, no parole, period.
7. Free speech. I believe in this very deeply. There will always be things that offend someone else. I don't think we should legislate that. HOWEVER, I do think we should be providing "safe zones". Families should have a place to go where they can be sure a certain level of decorum is maintained. Cable TV, that has, and always should be wide open. It's a paid service, not a public service. Don't like it, don't buy it.
8. Immigration. Kicking them out means that some states would literally collapse. Parts of Texas, Arizona, and California are entirely too dependent on illegal immigrant labor. We would literally see a collapse if we tried to deport them all. HOWEVER. I think those crossing the border illegally should be treated with extreme hostility. We should have a REAL fence up, and the right to shoot those trying to cross the border illegally. This has to stop, and the only way it's gong to happen is with extreme force and zero tolerance. We're not going to "talk them into" staying in Mexico.
9. We should have greater tariffs on importing goods and services. Companies should NOT be allowed to trade on an American stock exchange if they don't produce a certain amount of goods or services in the United States. It is entirely too sexy for companies to offshore and outsource. The current ******* in office has done NOTHING about this, and has allowed it to spiral out of control during his reign of terror.
10. Oil. Oil is controlled by only a few companies. Because of the current laws that allowed these companies to get where they are, and the requirements and money it takes to start your own oil company, I do not think these companies should be left to "free market". The oil market is by NO MEANS a "free market". In light of this, like many other services that are provided to the public, there should be much more regulation on maintenance schedules, and there should also be "production requirements" that if not met for several defined periods should result in fines. De-regulation only works when there can be fair competition. In the absence of that, strict regulation is not an option but an essential.
Ok, that's it for now. Label away.
