French fighter jets sighted over Libya as Gaddafi troops attack Benghazi city

An undisclosed number of French fighter jets have been sighted and heard in the skies over Libya as Muammar Gaddafi warned the West against military intervention while his troops fiercly pounded the cities of Benghazi and Misurata.

So much for a cease fire...

Yup..Gaddafi called the UN resolution invalid.

International jets take action as Gadhafi strikes - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110319/ap_on_re_af/af_libya - broken link)
In an open letter, Gadafhi warned: "You will regret it if you dare to intervene in our country."

"Libya is not yours. Libya is for the Libyans. The Security Council resolution is invalid," he said in the letter to Sarkozy, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon.

If we want to say Sadam was bad and had to go there is nothing from us saying the same thing about momar.... guess we can take care of reagans unfinished effort. Funny how the Repugs want to cut 10 million for NPR but see no issue in allocating $100 million in cruise missiles, or a few billion in fighter support.

I for one am glad that the United Nations is having some balls on this issue. Nations united to stop a thug who is murdering the people of his country. And yes, unlike Darfur, there is oil at stake...that's the way the dice roll in this world but at least the nations are ready to pull together. By the way the pic is not a pic of a French Jet.

It always feels right to stop a bully.

I don't think that's a French bird, looks like maybe a MiG-23 or 27.

I was thinking the same thing and wondered what would happen if the Chinese people rose up against it's leaders and were being slaughtered. Would the International community enforce a NFZ?
