Yes it is. Almost every state is seeing their food stamps being spent in states like California.

By Texas standards it's close to the coast. 300 miles miles isn't nearly as far to a Texan as it is to an Easterner. (I'm being polite by not using the "Y" word)

Austin is a college town. I know because I attended UT at Austin. Ahh, the memories. Skinny dipping at Hippie Hollow. All the gorgeous girls skinny dipping at Hippy Hollow... there was other stuff too. I seem to recall getting a degree in something or other and celebrating nude at Hippie Hollow. I also frequented a punk rock club called "Club Foot". I might have been naked there too but it's kind of fuzzy. Does that help explain it better?

Austin's motto is "Keep Austin Weird." No Joke.

But, your salt water theory falls apart in Texas. Ron Paul's district is coastal. Same thing in Florida. The Beautiful white sands and crystal waters of the famed Redneck Riviera is anything but liberal.

California Begs Texas for Job-Creating Recipe With Growth Trading Places - Bloomberg
California screws itself left and right. It over-taxes its citizens and promotes cap and trade and green energy. It is THE prime example of what no-to-do to create a better economy. Yet, our great leader Obama, who is in bed with Nancy Pelosi, would love the rest of the country to follow in California's footsteps.

Politicians should take a good look at California and DO THE EXACT OPPOSITE in terms of policy. This states is a complete failure. It is broke and continues to shell out entitlements, follow a cap and trade system and continue with out-of-control left wing spending.

I really hate threads like these. I've planted deep roots in CA but threads like this start bringing back memories. I want to go home.

Better deep roots than permanent roots. Get out ASAP.
